DC Murder is Up because of released past offenders, time for the death penalty and stricter laws?

Before I click, should I assume this is a white person? Did you consider the other upstanding people who were recently killed before posting, or is this a racial thing?

Must be racial because EVERYTHING has a racial slant to it in your mind, no doubt.

In other words, he's white.

No, not everything has a racial slant. But in a city where 90% of the homicides are black, what are the odds that the ones we hear about on DCUM are all white? Extremely low, unless it actually has a racial slant to it. This is not my mind. This is a matter of mathematical probabilities.

Actually, you could also point out that at least 80% of the homicides are ones where the victim had some sort of preexisting relationship with their killer. Situations where the victim has no relationship with the killer are much, much more rare. Also more newsworthy.

That is a national statistic, but that does not seem to bear out when you look at the DC homicides. Go through the list at the link I provided and see for yourself.

No. It is a national thing this year.

Let's see.

DCurbanmom = middle / upper class college educated.

Person who would look like anyone's middle /upper class son or child killed randomly would resonate.

Stoners generally don't head out to commit violent crimes. BREAKING NEWS: There was no shortage of weed or other substances in most higher crime communities prior to the enactment of Prop 71.

Plenty of upstanding black professionals in and around DC too. They get victimized too. Not sure why anyone automatically wants to make the leap to "racial thing" every time...

Because apparently there's nobody to prey on in PG?

You entitled to your opinion but not your own facts. Yes, criminals from PG County also prey on residents of PG County snd criminals from DC prey on residents of DC. Despite this fact, several higher profile crimes in DC were perpetrated by PG residents. Its pretty common for Ward 9 folks to drive imto the District (particularly Capitol Hill), mug pedestrians, steal a vehicle or snatch a purse from a unlocked car at a service station and them head back to PG. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of easy targets. So, perhaps you should keep your snark to yourself until you have spent a good amount of time at DC Superior Court or spoken to knowledgeable LEOs.

You don't remember when people were executed in Macolm X Pak and walking around Capitol Hill at night was the diciest of propositions. This crime trend is troubling. There are predators in DC for whom life is very cheap. And the police are on the defensive. the Mayor and Lanier need to come out with a strong statement of support for the police and a plan. Also, more cameras. Lets keep you and everyone else 'feeling' safe.

There is nothing should could say at this point. Her officers despise her. Moral is at rock bottom. And, the police are being reactive to crime opposed to proactive.
