Book suggestions for 13 year old DS and DH to read together

OP here. Thank you so much for all the recommendations. I have a good selection from which to work, but, more importantly, I feel like I can keep a list that we can use through the school year when he complains about not wanting to read.

I looked on goodreads earlier, but couldn't get the results to narrow down. All the YA books seem to be more geared toward girls. Having a hard time finding books that boys would find interesting.


Ashtown Burials series is aimed towards boys and is awesome. My boys also love: the Artemis Fowl series, Ranger's Apprentice series, and the Dresden Files.

I think it's a nice idea, OP from a bonding experience, to getting him excited about reading.

I'd also think about mixing it up, like adding a graphic novel:
