I am getting the first pangs of "Empty Nest"

I love the bike trip idea! Also once you return from that--you could get a puppy (though this would limit the new found easy ability to travel)

I worked full time, so my experience was quite different, but with three daughters in different colleges, it seemed someone was always coming or going. When they graduated and began their independent lives, I visited a lot and I talked to each once a week. When they married and had their own kids, I became a very active grandma. In fact, I retired early so I could be a "full time" grandma, providing as much help as I can so they can pursue their careers. Now my oldest grand child is a rising senior and is overseas this summer, and I feel empty nest syndrome again! Fortunately the little ones still need me. But I plan to visit them all in college and send lots of care packages with their favorite treats. BTW I finished graduate school and had very successful executive career

Tell me more! SaHM if a 5 and 7 year old and can't God damn wait to sleep in, watch whatever the hell
I want. Eat whatever the hell I want whenever I want -- walk the dog as long as I like without a whining kid trailing along (poor thing'll probably be dead)

PP oops, posted too soon... but I find that mothering and grand parenting very rewarding, and even though my kids are now in their forties, I still feel linked.
