Who defines the Big 3?

Could be, although that seems awfully subtle for her.

I think she's busy on another project.

So maybe that's the appeal, and why parents of kids at these schools use that ridiculous moniker, even though we all know there are many other equally strong private schools around that don't offer all of the grade levels.

But if the purpose is to highlight "pre-K to 12" DC private schools, we should also include the British School and WIS, which, for their academics, both fully deserve also the adjective "competitive".

A nefarious one, I hope?

I had not heard that the high schools at British School and WIS were highly competitive, in the overwhelming workload, sacrificing sleep to do well sense of the word. But I'll take your word for it.

Are you the same person who attempted to dash the excitement of the parent that just got accepted to BSW on another post? What's the deal? Do you have an ax to grind w/BSW? I assume you've never attended, & really don't have any valid information to offer...My guess is you're one of the so-called "Big 3" pushers...

There are posters here who post negative stuff about the following schools every chance they get:

Grace Episcopal in MD
British School of Washington
Washington International School

probably more like this....

Washington has many great schools. Not sure where the Big 3 came from, but as I understand it, the Big 3 are Beauvoir/sta/ncs, gds, and sidwell. I did get into a Big 3 and not into another Big 3 but I don't feel the one I didn't get into needs to be attacked. I still love the school and think it is great and would have loved to have gotten in there. I don't need to rip it apart to make myself feel better. Good luck to everyone.

Well you seem to be in the minority on DCUM. There are two basic modes here:

zealous boosting of the school that accepted your kid, with symptomatic blindness to any flaws,

and

bitter resentment of the worthless school that rejected your kid.

Sigh!

True. But there is also a knee-jerk anti-Beauvoir reaction, even if the posters don't seem to be from the latter category.
