No, I don't have time to answer all your questions, but as for 1 and 6, first of all, they haven't even gotten out of the hospital yet so I'm not sure what they were supposed to have done since getting Childress, and second of all, they have a conversation about it. That's why Hart says they can't catch them all, the world isn't like that, but they got theirs. There are unanswered questions about the scope of the cult and who was involved, but for me those weren't the gaps because they are easy enough to guess or are supposed to remain unanswered. The questions about Audrey and her possible molestation are a much bigger hole, IMO. |
I've lived in Baltimore, the Wire actually is like Baltimore. So is there a connection between the meth guys and the killer at the end? The meth men were keeping children chained in a room, one became the institutionalize girl who said the Man with the scars made her watch what he did to the boy. So somehow the meth men are connected to the killer, yes???? |
Childress says in the finale that those men were his "acolytes." |
To whom was he speaking? |
Ok, thanks. I missed that part. |
I'm from Southwest Louisiana, which is where the show is set. Most of the show was pretty spot on. And I absolutely think that if this were real life here, most of the establishment cops would sweep under the rug/refuse to look into links with important people/etc that we saw on the show. Nic Pizzolatto is from my hometown and portrayed it well. |
I did not like how buddy-buddy Cohle and Rust became. The last part of the show seemed like CSI:Cohle and Rust. I would have liked a longer Carcosa/Yellow King rather than that. It seemed too pat how Papania rode up to save them with the cavalry. But overall, very good wrap up. |
To Cohle, inside the Carcosa. |
2. I thought that the LeDoux brothers and Errol Childress were just friends with a penchant for torturing/killing children and women. However, it's possible that the LeDoux family was another of Sam Tuttle's secret families (there would be a lot of them if he only had sex with virgins, right?) 4. The guy who committed suicide in jail was being guarded by an Officer Childress who presumably said something to him that made him kill himself or he killed him outright. 7. I thought that Sheriff Ted Childress was the one changing the police records. They mentioned that only the governor could arrest a sheriff and the governor was a Tuttle at the time. |
"Alright fellas, we've got this massive conspiracy of evil SOBs committing murders and horrific sex crimes on women and children. They've been doing it for at least 20 years, and they're operating all along the coast of Southern Louisiana! Also, they've infiltrated the police departments and the government, so they can cover up their crimes. Let's go get them!"
... a little later ... "OK, so we killed one of the guys who was involved. Let's just quit and go home. Goodbye." |
Didn't you hear what the news anchor said? The machine was already at work clearing the names of the powerful. |
Okay, I'm the PP who said this is not "real" LA and I'm also from LA. The scenery was good and some of the cops were realistic but I think it's totally incorrect to say this represents "real" LA. People will take that to mean we're all full of the occult and that there are disgusting guys like Childress and Ledoux down every random country road. Yes, it looked like Louisiana but the story was completely fictional. |
Yeah, but at least Hart & Cohle, and perhaps others, know that isn't true. Some group of at least six (5 participants + videographer) did horrific crimes for decades. Why no interest in pursuing them once Errol goes down? |
Hah, I'd be interested to hear what town you're from. Obviously we're not all devil worshippers but if you told me that the Tuttle/Ledoux/Childress pedophile ring was located in my town I'd not be shocked in the slightest. |
To me, this is part of the Darkness vs. Light conundrum that Cohle and Hart learn that they have to live with, and in fact do finally live with, deciding that Light is winning. They realize that they cannot possibly out all the bad guys in this conspiracy. They will not be able to, do not have the resources to, and cannot overcome their links with power (Tuttle). Does the Darkness win? Perhaps. Perhaps not. We have to decide that, each one of us. |
