Downton Abbey 2/16 thread *Spoilers*

Lord Gillingham: peerage, looks kind of rapey.

Mr. Charles Blake (no peerage), likes pig mud, earthy, smart, not pretentious.

Tom is hot for teacher. Sadly, I think Edith will miscarry. Gregson was a newspaperman with a crazy wife--he should just be written off. Edith can't bring that baby to Downton and she would never follow through on adoption.

I think he is curious about the teacher, but would you call it hot? She is certainly appearing interested in him.

I love how Mary has gained so much strength. She has empathy, yet remains practical. It was impressive to see her step up in Rose's situation, Anna's situation and, of course, the pigs'!

Whatever happened to the man with the messed up face that came to the Abbey and claimed he was the cousin-heir they thought drowned at sea?

If I was Anna I would be really worried that if I pissed my husband off in any way he'd throttle me.

Exactly!

I suspect that Bates was involved somehow, but didn't actually do it himself. Perhaps he hired someone that he met in prison to do the dirty work? He looked way too happy in that last scene.

Love love love the clothes.

Nah, Bates definitely did it.

Bates is a scary dude.

Real scary, he's a sociopath and total excon. Anna probably senses somewhere in her heart that he really killed his exwife. When he first arrived, she saw his potential and felt that she could help him. Anna has always struck me as having low self esteem deep down. Gosh, I hope they don't turn her character into an abused woman.

C'mon, a sudden three month trip to Switzerland? That is so obvious.

Can we stop using the word rapey please? Not amusing.

I agree with the other PPs that Bates is scary. Also, the problem with the relationship before was that there was no honesty between them--when Anna was hiding the rape, and Bates suspected some dishonesty/secret on her part.

Now, of course, they are back in the same spot--but now it's Anna that's suspecting some dishonesty/secret on his part.

I think he's my favorite character on the entire show. The range of emotion he conjures on his face is just spectacular in every scene.

I like Mrs. Hughes. She seems like a very good and trustworthy person.

I am still curious about Mr Gregson. I doubt we'll find out anything about him until season five.

Any theories about what's going on with him and what was in that paper Edith signed?

Maybe he is heavily in debt since he is some sort of card shark gambler and she signed on as a cosigner of his debts. Now that he's gone, she's on the hook.

Gosh, I hope that's not the case but it sounds pretty likely. Poor Edith, she can't win.
