Why is Maryland overlooked on this forum?

The campus at UMD is really very nice, very large (as is true of all major public universities) but great. I am not sure why it receives less attention than the VA schools but no reason to ignore it, be a good or excellent place for most students in the area.

I don't find the architecture at Maryland interesting. All the main buildings look like bigger versions of the state rest stops along 95.

It's Georgian architecture .
Without the UVA plantation layout.

I was an international student, and in our cohort, UMD was regarded pretty highly. Nobody cared about virginiatech, let alone gmu (what?). I am amazed at the local perspective because it is so different from how i see things. I experienced this previously when i lived in pittsburgh - most locals seriously thought pit at least equal if not better than cmu.

I don't think it is a bad school, but I would like my kids to go further afield to broaden their horizons.

UMD is a great school, and IMO, the campus is quite attractive. My DS is a student there (it was his #1 choice) and he has met plenty of kids from the highly-regarded MoCo high schools, many of whom are in the honors program. VT was his second choice, but the business school at Maryland is much, much more highly regarded and ranked than VT's. DS#2 is also hoping to attend UMD in a few years, and we are 100% behind him!

Local people are always shocked that Charlottesville has a higher violent crime rate than cp. you never realize how crappy the south is when you love in ultra cool and nice DC.
Umd blows the ACC schools away. That's why the Big Ten move... Northwestern, Johns Hopkins , Iowa , Illinois , Ohio state , penn state, Rutgers , Michigan state, Nebraska , Indiana , Purdue , Maryland, Michigan , Wisconsin ,Minnesota .

Vs. Syracuse (lol), Louisville (lol) , Pitt (lol), Virginia , Virginia tech(lol), North Carolina , nc state (lol) , duke , wake forest (lol), Clemson (lol), Georgia tech, Florida state (lol), Miami .

There's only 2 schools in the ACC that would EVER be invited to the Big Ten. Unc and maaaaaybe UVA. That says it all.

^^^ when you have the balls or high estrogen /sexuality level of a Umd grad... Then you take on the responsibility of caring for others. GMU / UVA and Vt are really nice schools who try very hard . I think they are the tops!!

And you can never complete a thought in one post. You keep at it in drips and drabs. What a poor reflection on that beautiful school of yours.

if UMD doubled its endowment and cut its UG population by half, it would skyrocket in terms of rankings and Quality of the collegiate experience.
