Barrier trees- best time to plant, what kind- evergreens take kong to grow?

There are free plant clinics throughout DC, VA, and MD. You can google lists of native evergreens. They will warn against Leland Cypress, and who would really want to have 12:07 as a neighbor anyway?

I was one of the PP's who recommended Leland Cypress. (Although I am not the extremely defensive one).
I think it depends on what you want to screen.
We wanted to screen a busy major thoroughfair. They work great for that purpose. I will be thrilled if ours grow to 50 feet or higher.
We also did some landscaping where we wanted to screen the neighbors. For that we used hicks yew and nandina. Those will grow more slowly- but we weren't in a hurry.
