I just can't understand people who want to shame a young women just because you don't find them hot... she is not posing for playboy for christsakes!!! I am not a huge fan of hers or the show... and I am calm- just utterly disappointed in people.

I know it is fun to judge and tear people down on this site, it is anonymous and totally par for the course here. But please don't act like they way people show disgust for this women doesn't say some pretty sad things about the way we view/ treat women as a whole, cause it does. I would hope that some of you would expect better for your daughters...

If it makes you feel better, there are a good number of super models I don't find attractive. And there are also a few unconventional people I find attractive. I just don't find her attractive.

That is fine, it is just that there is so much criticism of how this women looks- it is far too common a practice to tear women down based on how they look even when that's is not what she is trying to accomplish. Even women in politics get put to a higher standard of how they "look". Like we can't accomplish anything unless we look pretty while doing it...and the fact that this young actress tries to battle that by putting herself out there in some unflattering ways- really challenges people and brings out the worst in some.

Is it okay for them to be self-obsessed if they're traditionally "hot" but not if they're average or a little overwieght? Lena Dunham's character on Girls is refreshing because it's one of the first characters I've seen where a young woman who looks average, is slightly overwieght, and not a beauty queen is nevertheless engaged in sex, has relationships with men on the show, and isn't cast as the comedic sidekick who never gets any.

Lena Dunham (if she is anything like her character Hannah) is exactly the type of girl that some dudes would be reallllllyyy into. Those of you who thing sexual attractiveness is limited to being perfect weight or having perfect teeth have an extremely limited understanding of the male sex drive.

And anyway, people don't get that Lena Dunham is a PERFORMANCE ARTIST. Ever since she has been an undergrad, she has been working with notions of exposure/humiliation/narcissism. Girls is in that vein. She's not wearing those shorteralls because she thinks she looks like a supermodel, believe me.
