+2 I wouldn't point ultrasound waves at my baby without necessity either. |
Think you are overreacting quite a bit and trying to use the ivf card as leverage. I had to do 4 ivfs to get pregnant, plus have losses under my belt, and I sure don't use a home Doppler. They are not safe!!!!!!!! |
NP here (never used home doppler and don't intend to). i have a question regarding this article - is this doppler the same as the home doppler/doppler they use in the office for monhtly visits? i know there exists a doppler that produces in image (often in color) and that is stronger than ordinary ultrasound. however, i am unclear on the home doppler? is that equally bad? i am asking because of the monthly visits. |
Oh, for Pete's sake. They use the freaking doppler every time you go into the OB's office, and one OB I saw pointed out that if doppler or ultrasound posed significant risks, all the babies of people who work in OB and L&D would be in bad shape -- they sneak peaks and listens all the time at work.
Last time I was in for an NST, the midwife even explained to my husband (a doctor) how to use the doppler to do informal NSTs at home since I'm contracting so much. I've loved having mine for the last two pregnancies, and as for the "false sense of security" argument, why not go to the doc every day to see if something is wrong, or not go at all since something could go wrong the moment you leave? IMO, using the doppler occasionally was waaaaay better in terms of anxiety than being blindsided by a missed miscarriage at a doctor's appointment weeks after the fact, which is why I got it in the first place. |
Definitely some sock puppeting going on here by the anti-doppler crowd. |
Yes, everyone with a different point of view from yours is a sock-puppet. Excellent analysis, pp. |
OP, I recommend that you think hard about whether this will be something that will torture you during pregnancy, and if you think so, put it away. I know if I'd had one, at the beginning I'd have been checking just to hear it and toward the end I'd probably have been freaking out at the changes I was hearing with rate and sound quality. So for me, this could have made me pregnancy more anxious than necessary. This is also why I have to resign myself not to use Dr. Google.
Your mileage may vary, but if you're like me, just consider the situation before you're too far down the rabbit hole. Happy pregnancy! |
My husband is also a physician and decided, based on research, that we weren't going to get a Doppler. The risks far outweigh the benefits. If I get worried about something, I go straight in to the doctor to get my reassurance there. |
This argument makes no sense. |
1539 and 1546 are definitely the same person. |
Makes total sense. You find the heartbeat and think oh perfect, baby is fine, and don't go in. Something else could be wrong though but you won't know b/c you don't go to the doctor. |
Actually you are wrong. Two different posters. |
What are you going to do when you finally start feeling movement and then one day the baby doesn't move as much? That will cause you stress too..... |
I tried to have the absolute minimum # of ultrasounds. Only at 5 months because that is my OB's rule. I would never expose my baby to that every single day, even if it's safe, just out of a sense of caution. Things may have long-term effects we don't recognize yet. |
Then you go into your OB immediately! You don't sit around at home messing with your home doppler when that happens! |
