Here's what the baby bargains authors have to say about the napper portion:

wow, thanks, 12:15.....
I have time to investigage....I have a lot of research to do. And I'll measure our doorway and the crib we're interested in just to see! I just know a cosleeper won't work because we have a very large dog that will probably bump into a cosleeper a lot (she's a sweetie, but checks in on us throughout the night....comes up, nudges me, then goes away. So thoughtful!)

That's a life style choice. You can't go wrong. Whatever makes you comfortable and means better sleep for your own family.

But since you asked: we had a co-sleeper that hooked to our bed. Our daughter slept in that for the first 5 months and it worked well. She only woke once per night to nurse from 2 weeks on. We transition her to the crib in a separate room without a problem.

But I had friends who put baby in a separate room as early as one month and friends who are still co-sleeping in the same bed with their 2 year old. Both families are totally happy with their choice.

Some docs advise against it (but others think it's OK). For those who aren't comfortable with the Rock n' Play Sleeper, fisher price also makes a Rock n' Play Bassinet that has a flat bottom and mesh sides.

My first wouldn't sleep in his crib or on any flat surface except my bed, but I'm hopeful that my second might accept a bassinet... Hope springs eternal I guess.

A lot of people also say it leads to flat heads (I can't remember how to spell the technical terms - plagio-something and torti-something).

I am considering using the Rock 'n Play Sleeper in our bedroom for the first week or two (to make nighttime feedings easier) and then transitioning to the crib. I read through a lot of Amazon reviews and most people LOVE it. It seems like the flat head problems resulted from babies sleeping in it for months. Also, some people seemed to keep there babies in it most of the day. Making sure to have tummy time and laying the baby on flat surfaces in addition to using the Rock 'n Play greatly reduced the chances of flat head.
