New Temple Emanuel Nursery School Feedback???

I don't understand these last two posts...

I think they were about the director's previous position at the JCC in DC, not the preschool (Emanuel) that the original poster asked about.

Anything new here? I'm considering Temple Emanuel for my DD2, found it very enticing when I went for a tour. Even seemed like the director had her act together.

Any current parents who can share their experiences?

What is the cost??

I'm a current parent. We are hapy with school and we are continuing.

It is around $1000/month for full-time. Part-time is less, of course.

Also, the school sends a daily email about what they did that day and the teachers send us pictures via the computer every week. We have a very good sense of what they are doing and how happy they are from the pictures.

The price is right for the quality you get.

What are the full-time hours?

The full-time hours are 7:30-6:00. The core school day starts at 9:00 (in other words, if you come before 9 you can drop off your kids in the early drop-off room, you are supposed to get your kids there no later than 9 to start the day's activities).

I am a current Temple Emanuel parent and I have not experienced these problems. Madeline has tons of administrative support at Temple Emanuel (all billing etc., is through the front office), and the teachers are all extremely qualified, much more so than any other school I've looked at or had kids enrolled in. I do find that it's better to seek out the teachers than to seek out Madeline- they are the ones that are with the children all day. I actually have little need for contact with her, but the contact I've had has been fine. She is always friendly and listens to our concerns, even if she doesn't always agree with me or my husband. It's going to be like that everywhere, I think. We used to be at a school where the director gave into everything the parents wanted and it was total chaos because there was no consistency.

The place is spacious, bright, clean, with caring and experienced teachers. Not sure what Madeline's interactions were like with parents at the DCJCC, but I honestly haven't seen any problems so far (two and a half months in to the school year).

Why does somebody keep quoting my previous posts without any new text? Are you saying that you agree?

If she has admnistrative support, then perhaps she will be somewhat better than she was during her last few years at the JCC. I do believe the JCC did not give her the support she needed and she flailed - really badly, new teachers were really unhappy, new parents were horrifed, whiile I found that older parents and older teachers - and I don't mean age - were stronger advocates and talked about a madeline that I had never seen or met.

it sounds like her program is basically what is at the DCJCC, even now with a much more organized, dedicated, energetic and responsive new director who is trying to clean up the mess that madeline left.

I don't know the full story of what happened with madeline and the JCC, all I know is what I saw, and she handled it unprofessionally and left the kids and the school and the whole community out in the cold. As a parent, who was stuck mid year in the school, I will find it hard to forgive you.

So, where does that leave you? If I had a better choice, I'd go somewhere else (old dogs don't learn new tricks). If I was already at the school, I'd hope her admin help keeps supporting her and that her desire to prove herself does not wane. She was supposedly a great director at some time in her career.

I realize that this thread is old. I am a TE parent. I read these posts when they were posted and hoped that the warnings about potential problems at TE would not come to fruition. Having now experienced problems similar to those described above, I now agree with this assessment of the administration and no longer reccomend the school.

I'm also a parent and I've been nothing but satisfied with the school, the director and the community. I've heard rumors about problems in a 3 year old classroom but as I understand it the problems are being addressed. There has also been some turnover this year (2 or 3 teachers.)

I believe the children are universally respected by the professionals at the school. I have almost daily interactions with Madeline on an informal basis and a couple of formal meetings. She has responded to my needs and requests in an organized and professional fashion.

I know the school is not perfect but my experience has been a positive one and more importantly my child LOVES the school.

I am the PP. I am glad that you are having a good experience. We had a good experience at first and that has changed. I now understand all too well the warnings about the JCC because similar things (which fortunately do not directly affect your child/children) have, in my opinion, occurred at TE.
