It's like what happened after Christopher became a made man on The Sopranos. He was responsible for treating the seniors to dinner, etc., had a small money-making racket, but had to kick up more upstairs ...

heh, is it wrong that was my first thought?

And if you're taking a pay cut (and if this comes as a complete and total surprise to you after 7-10 years of working 60+ hour weeks and seeking 1500-2000 billable hours) ... wow, I can't imagine spouses being 100% thrilled with all this.
