Why am I a bitch, just because I'm telling the truth? |
I use my lunch to run errands or work out. When I need to get work done, I shut my door and avoid chit chat with coworkers. |
Sure, in theory I am jealous of people that work from home--especially on a day like today. But it's a vague kind of jealousy, the way you can be jealous of one factor in someone's life without actually considering whether the whole package is all that great or whether it would be right for me. E.g. I am jealous of friends who have kids that are great sleepers, but I'm not looking to trade mine in. |
New WAH poster here. I don't work for a shoestring organization, just one that's moved itself into the 21st century. |
You do realize WAH is for the employer's benefit, right? |
I WOH and DH WAH 100% (for himself so his schedule is really flexible). At first, I was really jealous of his arrangement but now I've learned how to use it to my advantage. Because he has the ability to change the laundry, start dinner, hang around waiting for contractors, etc, he does those things and they are done for me when I get home. He doesn't mind since he's there all day and it really helps to have those little things taken care of when I get home. And, he gets to take care of his "chores" like cutting the grass and washing the cars during the week so that our weekends are less crowded with those items on the to do list. And if I need to work late, no problem.
Having said that, his clients know that he works at home and is available all the time to help them so he ends up putting in late hours and weekend hours a lot. |
No jealousy here. I HATE working from home. I find it isolating. Sure, I dont like everyone at work but I like being around them. Plus I dont like not being able to just walk down to someone's office to ask a question. I cant focus worth a damn at home. |
Not really. I'm an introvert with a very autonomous job so if I didn't go to the office I wouldn't talk to anyone but DH and DD (2 years old). |
Ok, then I'm jealous ![]() |
I've been doing it for 10 years and love it. We dont' have kids yet but we'll get full-time care when we do. I own the company so I only have to explain to myself if I'm not getting work done, and it goes straight to my bottom line. |
I've never been out of the work force, just apparently in an industry where work from home isn't prevalent. Apparently I am clueless. But the defensiveness of posters like you is quite telling. |
NP here. It's the truth that you think that. But it's not necessarily the truth that either of those things are true for everyone who works from home. I work for an established organization and I'm quite social, but I've found ways to work around not having daily face-to-face interaction with my coworkers. I do miss dressing up from time to time, though. And going to lunch. |
I wouldn't want to do it every day, but one day a week would be terrific! |
Employer and employee benefit from my point of view. Win win win. (Except for my wardrobe. That is a lose lose.) |
Heck yeah! I'd love no commute and the ability to work in stretchy pants all day long. |
