If you want plain decent respect, look for another facility. Run away as far as possible and never look back

I've had two great birth experiences in the Chevy Chase office. Dr.Johnson and Dr. osmun are great.

I'm going to them now (second pregnancy, Chevy Chase office). Previously went to Georgetown. I feel exactly the same way about them that I did about the doctors at Georgetown-- I've either liked or felt neutral about all of their personalities, I've never waited more than 15 minutes for either sonograms or regular appointments, when I called with a question the other day, someone called me back within half an hour.

Georgetown was the same way After a perfectly healthy / normal pregnancy, I then had a horrible delivery that went awry and landed me in and out of the hospital for 18 months. There is no predicting what can and will go wrong. And there is no knowing how doctors will handle things when and if they do until you've been there and done that.

RHJN is my OB, but I know I really want as unmedicated and intervention free of a birth as is medically responsible. I switched to GW midwives because while people might have anecdotes about having an unmedicated birth with RHJN and Sibley, I didn't want to have to fight for it. I want everyone one my team to be helping me towards have a vaginal birth every step of the way.

What?? Please explain what you mean by this PP.

Hate this practice. I just switched at 32w. Very dismissive impersonal care. Also if you have to go to the hospital before 32w you have to go GW or Georgetown, where they do not have privileges. There is a major disconnect and lack of continuity of care at that point.

I've been seeing Dr. Osmun for several years. For annual/scheduled visits, he's normally really on time (as in, I have 2pm, I'm out of there by 2:30 after talking with him about everything I wanted to talk about for 15, having the pap or whatever). I've had 2mmcs, 2 D&Cs, and was diagnosed with a septum (which was removed) and I'm now 9 weeks. Everyone there was nothing but kind, supportive, and attentive during my 2 mcs. I go the DC office.

Don't go to this practice. Billing errors, rude staff, appointments cancelled/rescheduled when you show up (never tried to call me, just said they couldn't see me when I got there). I went to this practice from 2010-2012 when I got pregnant. I then switched to Physicians & Midwives in VA (love them). I switched back to RHJN in 2013 after I gave birth because I wanted to quickly get in for an annual appt and to get back on birth control. Not worth the quick appt scheduling because you will wait FOREVER in their waiting room and then be harassed for months over billing disputes. Not worth it.

I had my first child with them. I had some bad experiences like lost blood test and confusion about how to deal with my blood disorder. I also recently went to them for a miscarriage and wasn't ever called with the results of the blood test they made me get. But I do think that Dr. Osmun is really great- he did my C section and is the only reason I would consider going there. But the lost test results makes me really nervous that the support staff might not be good enough to justify continuing to see Osmun for my second child/repeat C section.

I thought this was going to be a thread on names.

Dr. Heather Johnson is an excellent doctor!!
You should not say stuff like she cut into a patient's leg. That can't be true!

I've been an OB patient for 15 years and have generally had good experiences. I started trying to start a family last year and lost two pregnancies - one a missed miscarriage, one an ectopic that required emergency surgery. Between the doctors (Dr. Loveland did my D&C and has been my OB for years, and Dr. Abraham did surgery to remove my ectopic and tube) and the staff at Sibley, I felt that I received excellent care. They are good doctors.

I have worked with the Reiter Hill practice for many years. I cant say what happens when I am not there, but I have had many beautiful births with my clients who were under thier care. I know and work well with all the doctors and they have always been willing to answer questions and have discussions during labor, and to allow as much time as the mother needed, intervention free, unless truly necessary. I am sorry for all the women on this thread who felt neglected and poorly cared for. I know the office and the number of doctors has grown tremendously, and that can feel daunting and impersonal. My humble suggestion would be to hire a doula so you have someone to meet with and talk to during your pregnancy. If you have questions, need research, need to talk, or need help preparing for birth, call her, meet with her. She is there to support you during pregnancy,to serve and love you all the way through into motherhood. If you work closely with a doula you feel comfortable with, and who will put her heart into building your trusting relationship, and being there for you, many of your questions will be answered, and by the time you are in labor, you will feel more empowered and prepared. You will also know that you have a loving advocate by your side during labor, who can help to greatly enhance your birth experience, allowing you and your partner to just relax and revel in the beauty and miracle of birth, and welcome your precious new baby in an atmosphere of great love and joy. Many blessings to all who have commented here, I hope your births are glorious!

I've never had a bad experience there, and I've been a patient for eight years. They aren't super warm and fuzzy, but I never felt rushed or "just a number" to them. Dr. Nevin is my regular gyn, and she's great; Dr. Osmun delivered my baby (unmedicated), and was super; and Jackie the NP is really sweet and warm. I liked all of the OB's I met, some more than others, of course, but I had nothing but a good experience. Never even had a problem with the front desk staff. I know some people don't like them, but I think some of it is personality. If you want a lot of hand-holding, I don't think it's the practice for you, but I found the doctors to be competent, caring, and effective.
