Peach Juice vs. Apple Juice

Juice in moderation sounds like no big deal - people act like you're asking if Pepsi or Mountain Dew is a better breakfast drink. FWIW - I am a big apple juice drinker. It has a ton of vitamin C and I usually get the kind fortified with calcium., but I usually end up going with whatever my daughter likes best for her, as long as it's not something particularly unhealthy.

Exactly! Sorry there are some real "peaches" on this thread OP.

Bahaha. I crack myself up.

Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

Apple juice is typically very high in sugar. It's not naturally high in vitamin C so it's heavily fortified if it does have it in there. Vitamin C is pretty plentiful so drinking fortified apple juice for that purpose is hardly healthful. If the peach has vitamin A that's great since that seems to be lacking in your kids' diet. One thing to take into account, though, is that peaches are very heavily sprayed produce and one of the items that really should be bought organic, so if the TJ product isn't organic, I'd think twice. Frankly, if my kids weren't getting enough vitamins, I'd rather give them a straight vitamin supplement and water than juice. Or what about just buying fresh fruit and throwing some in the blender with water for homemade juice? Add yogurt if they'll eat that. I agree juice isn't poison but it's not really healthy either.

I am a newspaper reporter writing a story about "No Sugar Added" juice products. I'm interested in talking to some moms who make it a point to buy "no sugar added juice." If you are interested in being interviewed, would you email me at:

Thanks so much.

That's how we grew up back home and that's how we roll. We don't buy the bottle juice. It's just gross!

That's how you grew up. I sure as hell didn't grow up that way.

What about pomigranate juice, or something with blueberries, mangosteens, or other fruit that has a really high level of vitamins?

Not sure if you're still reading OP - but I make peach tea. Teavana has different fruit teas - no caffeine, no sugar. I don't add any sugar and my DD likes it. It did take her some time to transition; my guess is because it isn't as sweet. I've tried the blueberry and pineapple teas also. DD doesn't like the blueberry and she is 50/50 about the pineapple. But, she loves the peach tea. So, no more juice. Teavana also has a strawberry-lemonade, but I haven't tried that one yet.

Given the slightly higher sugar content, very high sodium and relatively low Vitamin C, I would go with Apple.

Love peach juice for taste. However the best bet is to eat whole fruit and not worry about the other additives.

Op, I don't care if you give your child juice or whatever.... but I like to experiment with juices for fun (I don't like it personally, but my husband and toddler like). Some favorites in this house:

Carrot and orange juice mixed together (you can also put beets, but my toddler didn't like it much with beets).

Pineapple juice blended with ice, water and fresh mint leaves - it is to die for! Especially in a hot day. My toddler and husband LOVE it!

You can also try kale or collard greens blended with orange juice - it was a not a HUGE success but they drank it.

Another thing you can add to juices is celery (especially the leaves) - but be careful because they do taste strong and you don't want to overpower the fruit flavor.

Technically, if I wasn't lazy, I should buy all fresh and make it from scratch... but since I am lazy, I buy the pineapple juice from TJ (in a box) and just blend it with mint, etc.... Same with orange juice, although sometimes I do throw a couple of fresh baby carrots into the blender instead of buying the juice from TJ.

Always put ice and water.... not TOO MUCH ice... you don't want to make a "frozen" drink, but just make it super 'fresh" and appealing.

My DD loves the fruit flavored ice teas! We use the strawberry-lemonade from Teavana- no sugar added, no caffeine, and it tastes really good. DD started asking for iced tea because that is what the adults drink at home, so this just made sense...
