You know, that's right! He's a great storyteller, too. I just wish he was a bit better about not shaping a documentary to make the story better.

Funny hwo he likes to share his wealth with the people he makes movies about............not

I agree
I wonder why they did this. Was it spite? Either way, very shortsighted

Yes, he has a way of placing himself in situations that will be to his economic advantage and doesn't let truth get in the way of his ideas. Loves to creatively intermingle fiction and nonfiction.

Unions suck

This is ironic.

How unbelievably ironic - the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Associatino (State Troopers' UNION) - is moving to protect them from legal action which could be brought against them because they were used illegally at the Capitol.

Uninos are about more than whiny employees negotiating for longer coffee breaks, people. Individuals cannot stand up to management -- they will be fired. Only a union with collective bargaining rights and the right to STRIKE can protect employees from being forced to, among other things, act illegally or lose their jobs.

Unions produce a crappy work product.

Right, PP. You would know that "unions produce a crappy work product"? How? What factual evidence of any sort do you have for this statement.

GM . End of story.

And it is production line workers who are in charge of designing great cars.....Oh, I silly me, I thought executives and engineers are supposed to make design and market great cars. (Although, If you have checked the news lately you'd know GM if profitable right now.) I'm sure you blame bank tellers for the financial meltdown too....

There is a lot more to a car then its assembly. American cars have suffered directly from the design stage. They further suffer from the choices of materials and components. By the time the assembly line workers get their hands on them, most of the damage has been done. For similar reasons, Toyotas assembled by non-union American workers have been being recalled left and right. Not because they weren't assembled correctly, but the components chosen to be installed have a high failure rate.

to say that GM filed for bancrupcy because of the unions vs. bad management is insane.

As far as the GM thing goes, this is one of the most interesting nuanced treatments of the subject of the "dark years" of US auto manufacturing.

Very interesting to those who care at all about the subject. My guess is our "GM. End of story." commenter is not one of those, but rather one of those odd specimens you fine at a Teabagger convention for whom Mad Libs-style chants (e.g "ACORN AYERS GM") stand in lieu of an argument.

Anyway, the bottom line is, managers tend to get the workforce they deserve.

Oh, PP here. One word of caution: this story was originally produced and distributed via WBEZ, which--while not NPR--is kind of part of the whole Islamo-Fascist Socialist Red Wedge of Trotskyite Marxist propaganda network whose sole purpose is to undermine and destroy the moral fabric of our Christian Free-Market Nation...so handle with care.

But, the tragedy will be worth it, because the sleeping giant has been woken. Republicans just kissed their chance at 2012 goodbye.

Hope it was worth it!
