Two-hour delay for Wednesday 2/4

Seriously this AP poster needs to chill

Nice try to blame things on the teachers, except they aren't the ones who supervise indoor recess; paraeducators and other support staff members are.

If it's your position that AP kids should be fully capable of teaching with Khan Academy and College Board material themselves, then why do we have the AP classes at all? What is the point of having teachers or sending them to school if you believe the kids should teach themselves?

What a stupid comment. Kids are not supposed to be teaching themselves their coursework. That’s why we have schools.

You may want to hold MCPS to a low standard, but many others disagree. If you want to close schools every time there is ice on the ground, McPS should open two weeks earlier in August. McPS can build in 8 snow days into its calendar instead of the single snow day it has now

I said nothing of the kind…My position is simply that you need to relax. It will be fine and if you want your kid to work ahead until they have continuous full days of class again then they have access to the material online; available to all for free. You are very worked up and need to relax!

Not how the waivers work.

I'd just like them to tell us if March 20th is being used. I have a trip I'd like to schedule to take my kid on a college visit in Denver that weekend and it'd be awesome not to have to take a day of leave

Can we stop with the demonizing of any parent who thinks it’s important that their kid get an education? We are not anxious tiger parents, or people who hate our kids and don’t want them around the house.

We just look at the weather and the schools around us opening while McPS stays closed and realize MCPS is not well run.

Waiver means McPS asks permission from the state of MD to allow them to teach your kid for less than 180 days.

It’s just too big. It’s not badly run, but it’s HUGE!

All the public schools are operating on a 2 hour delay this week; and other districts were closed Monday, so I’m not sure which schools you are talking about.

BOTH teacher bashing and parent demonizing are hurtful; it’s never justified as a response or a form of retaliation. Even if they voice frustrations sometimes or act flippant, both teachers and parents love their kids. Don’t doubt that.

If you’re going to blow a gasket every time there is a winter storm, I suggest you move to DCPS. They close less than all the other school districts. And they have free prek 3 and 4. You’re welcome.

There’s a pretty long list of school districts one could move to that opened far earlier than MCPS. HoCo, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Alexandria, Falls Church, Loundoun county etc. and yes DCPS
