this! And also isn’t the new rule is that assignments need to be graded and updated for student to see within ten days? But it is common sense that unless it was an assignment given the last school day of the quarter that the teacher should let any student who has missing assignments (according to the teachers grade book) know before the quarter is over. |

The problem is that there is no way to put "Z" in MyMCPS. You have to manually enter that in Synergy. My department head to just mark non-submitted assignments as "Missing" in My MCPS. It calculates as zero when sending grades over to synergy. I am not sure if this shows as a Z or whatever admin thinks it should be.
I point this out to admin every year. It's clear the people making these grading rules are not talking to teachers. I used to think it was just to make it harder for teachers to give zeroes. Now I think it is ignorance repeated over and over again since there is no technical solution offered. |
We were told that we could not accept any late work over the last 5 days of the quarter. However we were also told that we should be assigning work over those last 5 days and let students know there is no late work accepted. These assignments were all PP assignments and many of them were simple google forms or “In 3-5 sentences tell me what you learned this MP” type assignments . They were all done in class and students who were absent were exempted. |

Well none of this is really making sense. I check parentvue pretty much daily, and was checking this class a lot in the last week of the quarter to see what kid was going to get on the big final test — kid did great and got a solid A so we were really excited but then all these PPs as 0s posted over the snow break.
It’s just realizing demoralizing and kid is pretty depressed because has worked really hard studying in that class and we check parentvue every single day for missing work. This is a kid that works so hard at school and hasn’t always had the easiest time so the A in their favored class would have really meant a lot to them. They have a tutor that works with them on homework organization (in addition to all the time I spend trying to help them) and would have helped them fix this if we had realized the issue earlier in the quarter. It’s depressing to have worked so hard to get As on all the tests and other assignments and then end ip with a B for stuff we don’t know was missing. |
| I mean, a B is pretty awesome. Let him know that. |
Teacher here. Missing in Canvas does show up as a z in synergy |
Sounds like your kid should have an A. Today is the last day to submit grades so your kid needs to go asap and advocate with this teacher and ask for the 50%. And he may also need to go to the AP. It’s worth a shot. |
