| My kid is an editor on a school paper. There’s a different name for the journalism class if you’re an editor. Regular journalism isn’t an honors class, but the one for editors is. |
It’s an issue. Same for our class and SGA officers. I think it’s better for the teachers to get paid as a class. And the students learn more. Also I think it serves to limit number of students, for better or worse. WJ has 3,000 students, many vying for top colleges and doing many ECs. I feel like they try to limit students on a lot of things by necessity. |
| Do HS print copies or are the papers only online? |
WJ prints it occasionally |
| One school's paper listed names of students. Not only the names of students/reporters who write for the paper. |

Is your kid at BCC? If so, Can you tell me if the editor class is offered every semester? Do kids do this all year for multiple years? My child is taking the intro to journalism class this year (in 10th grade) in hopes of being an editor on the tattler at BCC. I have no idea if it is common for “high achieving” students to take the newspaper class multiple years in 11th and 12th since it crowds out another course options, and how that is perceived by highly selective colleges. Any insight? I want to help my kid know ahead of time what might be the best course of action (one or two years of tattler in the future as they plan things out for themselves) |
Sorry, my kid isn’t at BCC. Mine took regular journalism junior year and is editor senior year. I have no idea if either course can be taken more than once for credit. My dc is in a magnet program and will have completed 12 AP courses and a few other honors courses by graduation, so journalism is an enjoyable elective and dc wasn’t really worried about how selective colleges might view it. I don’t see why colleges would view journalism negatively. Just make sure your dc meets their requirements for rigor. |
| Which high schools don't have a student newspaper? Other than Kennedy which possibly started one this year? |
