I read and hear this sentiment a lot, that Wootton "has more than other schools." What do you mean by that? |
| How do Wootton parents feel about the proposal to have Crown become Wootton? |
As a Wootton parent I'm fine with it. It's a fairly new proposal so I have only a limited impression of other Wootton opinions, but so far they seem to be pretty positive. I think it's well understood that the student body needs to move somewhere in order to fix/rebuild the current building - as highlighted by the latest gas leak and lack of heating. |
It kind of seems like the posters saying that the population at Wootton should have just been quiet and not complain, should've just stayed silent and be the "model minority". With Wootton always being overlooked for renovations and passed on for the CIP, one can't help but wonder and see the comparisons on how immigrant populations were at first regulated and confined in slums. |
Well, Wootton is being restricted to Region 4 now. No more access to magnets at Blair, Einstein, or Poolesville. Oh wait, is MCPS going to kick Wootton to Crown's Region 5? That means no access to RM either. So no access to any already established magnets - hmmmm... |
No, Wootton is restricted in Region 4 in all 8 options. Check out the articulation table on the boundary study website. If Crown is going to be used as a holding school, Region 5 will also have 4 HSs instead of 5. If Wootton is moved to Crown permanently (option H), the new Crown will be part of Region 4 and host programs that Wootton is supposed to host. |
| Wootton is in a disarray. Old decaying building and brand new admin and all new counseling. No one knows what’s happening or what they are doing. |
They want a brand new school so the best/quickest solution is to give them Crown. |
W schools don't need access to other schools as they have a huge variety of classes. |
I'm not complaining about the proposal. I'm complaining about the posters saying that the families and students at Wootton shouldn't have complained and should have stayed quiet. With some of the posters saying that other families go to older schools and just stay silent. There are maybe six schools last built/modernized in 1970, when Wootton was built, or before. So unless those posters live in an area that goes to one of those schools, they really shouldn't be telling Wootton families that they should have put with it and just be happy with it. |
| Unfortunately the fear of being cancelled in this stupidly liberal arena makes it impossible for parents in the Wooten area to advocate for their own children. It needs to stop. |
Wootton moving to the Crown facility is a win for that community and for the new region 4. With Churchill, Wootton will have a good student cohort to rebuild an outstanding STEM program. |
It feels like a form of discrimination. You have low farms rate so you should shut up and don’t complain. |
Region 4 is in a lesser bad situation main because the cohort of high-achiever is large and strong, but still there’s an outcry of lacking teachers and resource to fund extra teachers, let alone magnet teachers. Wootton couldn’t even find an AP Calc teacher at the beginning of this semester. |
There are way more than six schools not remolded. We put up with it. |
