It almost seems like it's the same OP reinventing this story from another angle.

+1 Bored much, OP?

Just get the 2 posters together and no more problems!

They don’t want to take the brownies, pie, dip, etc. that they brought home, then I ask everyone and say we don’t want leftovers so if no one wants it, it’s going in the trash.

Then I get a trash bag and throw them away in front of the people who brought them.

You only have to do this a couple of times until they start bringing less or cave and take it home. .

This is brlliant.

Just throw it away. Consider the fun was in making it and now that is over. Throwing it out is Ok.

OP - I assure you I am not a troll. This absolutely happens every time we host.

My theory (for my MIL especially) on why this happens is that she wants an excuse to bake a cake and try the various Costco desserts but doesn't want to buy them for herself as she lives alone. Which I totally get, I love the Costco desserts too.

What is a BN group?

Buy Nothing. chain of Facebook groups run by Communist mini-dictators.

Give it away. Guarantee there are people struggling in your community who would gladly take it. Post on buy nothing, or just go for a drive and find the homeless people.

No they wouldn't. They don't want leftovers from strangers and often are pretty healthy eaters.

My local fire department routinely accepts donations from people in the community. It is encouraged.

Alternatively do a sign up for contributions. List 2 desserts, 1 salad, 2 mains. Remind people to only bring us on the list

This is what needs to happen. So many billions of people on earth are food-insecure, and so many millions of Americans are food-insecure. It would turn my stomach to witness so much waste. I think if your relatives watch as their bought food is thrown away into trash bags, the message will have a lot more impact.

It might turn your stomach, but most people wouldn’t care.
