Success Stories? How did your DC get into one of these selective LACs?

10 Most selective co-ed SLACs:
Williams
Amherst
Swarthmore
Pomona
Bowdoin
Claremont McKenna
Harvey Mudd
Middlebury
Carleton
Wesleyan

These are not the 10 most selective SLACs. Colby, Davidson and Haverford have lower admit rates vs Wesleyan, Carleton and Middlebury.

Barnard and Wellesly are more selective than Davidson and Haverford.

Agreed but OP said they were looking at selective CO-ED LACs only.

Bingo.

Lmao that is not what got their child into Amherst

Why? I am curious if you have access to the admission rates of 36 ACT scorers or 1580+ SAT scorers to Amherst? Just an FYI, fewer than 28 students had an SAT above 1580 or an ACT of 36 in the entire freshman class.

That tells us nothing if we don’t know the number of students applying with an sat above 1580

Haverford and Davidson have slightly lower acceptance rates than Wellesley for the classes of 2028 and 2029. Not that it matters, but it sure seems like many posters here submit information based on their personal opinions/feelings rather than facts.

this thread is not about single sex LACS, only co-ed per OP's post.

The applicant pools at SLAC’s tend to be more self-selecting, which is a good thing.

DC at Swarthmore, 4 unweighted GPA with high rigor, 1550 SAT, ED1, no optional video or interview, no demonstrated interest. (Swarthmore does not look at demonstrated interest). Essays demonstrated deep interdisciplinary interests & character (grit, determination, working with others).

Look at the Swarthmore CDS for what factors they care about in admissions. You’ll see character is a very important factor (in many other schools it is not listed as very important) Also look at their own site.

RD to Carleton (and Vassar and Barnard). No sports, no interview. Had one B in HS, not the highest possible rigor but fairly rigorous. We live in Oregon which much have helped. I would not say a ton of demonstrated interest, had not toured ahead, though she was WL by Barnard and we did tour and she wrote a couple of letters of continued interest. This was 2025.

+1 facts matter. Data is readily available so there’s no reason for these errors.

This is what I'm hoping for with my kid who applied ED this year to Swat - huge character applicant and focused on that. Lots of community leadership, volunteer work, national level activism as well as at their school, deep commitment to two significant causes. Also legacy, 1520 SAT, top grades.

Depends on how you want to interpret the data. This past year Haverford and Davidson have admissions rates similar to Middlebury for example. But, traditionally Middlebury has a lower acceptance rate than either so is it a point in time or over time? I believe that the smae holds for Carleton though I didn't look it up.

Are you willing to share more about "National ECs" as I find your son's profile to be interesting.

Do you recall his SAT math score ?

Scores from AP exams ?

I ask because I am tired of almost every poster on every thread claiming SAT scores above 1530--which is difficult to believe. Your post rings true. Thank you for sharing.

Admission rate doesn't tell the whole story either. Some schools have higher admit rates but the same caliber of students. You have to look at multiple data points to get the whole picture.
