Orange scare!! |
She got famous for pretending to be a Bernie leftist on the Alex Jones show while wearing a sexy Sailor Moon anime costume. She was literally “Cosplaying a Leftist” as her claim to initial fame. You’re either in on the joke or the butt of the joke. The entire “Red Scare” label is to distort the fact that she and her podcast host are neo-reactionary right wingers. The Soviet communists loved hierarchy just as much as western conservatives. Same mentality, different trappings. |
And for a minor podcaster, getting a name firebrand was probably a good get. Sustaining a podcast is hard. There is so much out there. This certainly boosted her profile and income. The vast, vast majority of actors in LA in NY flame out before thirty. A minor role on Succession is not a guarantee of a sustainable career. So people move on. And podcasting is definitely the thing presently - Conan O'Brian, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Jason Bateman etc are all using podcasts for what is likely their primary source of income. Maybe this Dasha person looses some audition opportunities during pilot season because of politics, but she gets a more reliable career and income by hosting controversial people on her podcast. I don't think this is a hard choice for most people shooting for a career in entertainment. |
You're mischaracterizing her initial break. She wasn't "on the Alex Jones show." She was a leftist at a protest in Austin. She was dressed like Sailor Moon because she's an art ho, not because she LARPs. A lady from the Alex Jones show shoved a mic in her face and asked why she supported socialism. And she famously smiled into the camera, primped her hair, and said "I just want people to have healthcare, honey." A star was born. They began hosting Red Scare as Bernie supporters. But, like it or not, an estimated 10% of Bernie supporters went on to vote for Trump. This is inconceivable to highly partisan types. I voted for Obama twice, and then went on to vote for Trump. We exist. And I also regularly listen to Red Scare. The red scare mindset defies normal left/right logic. They are more populist than right wing, they are critical of whether feminism has actually helped women in America, they like traditional religion, and still want people to have healthcare. They have a lot of moronic takes but its absolutely refreshing to listen to people who have their *own* takes instead of reading from talking points. Now, go on and call me a Nazi, as is the custom when someone deviates from your approved messages. |
The fact that you don’t realize it was all a setup just belies your credibility, there are no consequences. They exist to mainstream populist rightwing views under, see: Overton’s Window |
Again, before you add another random label: how is Dasha antisemitic? |
To me, they fall into center-right and I agree that, aside from their vocal fry, it's truly refreshing to listen to their own takes and I admire their courage. |

Yeah it takes a lot of courage to say the r-word and laugh at yourself for the comedic genius of *checks notes* calling someone a "f@ggot." They're edge lords with vaginas. |
They’ve been rightwing plants from the very beginning. They pretended to be “Bernie leftists” is order to attract a young audience and kept going further and further right. |
You wouldn't know either way. |
Does freedom of association only go one way? |
In America her talent association has the freedom to not associate with her. |
Freedom of speech is one thing; freedom from consequences of the speech you choose is another. I defend the first, not the second. I don’t want her thrown in jail. But no, every employer or representative organization has the right to choose who they do or do not represent and align with. |
