Nobody is whinging. It’s called boundaries. I’m not doing a single thing to prepare in advance. On Thursday I will wake up, check email, then head in at an unhurried pace. This probably means getting in a bit late if the news doesn’t come out until late Weds, but I’m fine with that.

Coming in late as long as you have a variable or maxiflex schedule is fine, otherwise you will need to take leave. Anything else would be time card fraud, and THAT I would recommend against in current DOGE era, though I guess you have till Jan 30.

I have a clean conscience. Flame away, I don’t GAF. the new social contract of the DOGE era is pretty clear. I know I will have Trump favored industry breathing down my neck to get unfair prioritization and I have zero compunction about getting to work at 10:30am the first day after furlough.

It's not your 90 minutes. It's your not caring or taking a moment to appreciate what the compromises that led to your being able to go in to serve the public and get all your money cost others.

Lol, please. The House has not met since mid-SEPTEMBER and yet we’re supposed to scurry back in on four hours’ notice? That’s unprofessional.

Your notice started Sunday night.

Until I hear from someone in my chain of command, no, it didn’t. Some people on this thread have already heard, e.g., been told to prepare for Thursday. I’ve heard nothing, though I did let my team know that things are in motion and I’ll let them know as soon as I have official information to share.

Also: there’s something truly pathetic about kicking federal employees right now.

Be ready to return on Thursday. If necessary, take leave for some or all of the first day(s) back. I'm putting in place a backup plan for commitments I have on Thursday and just rescheduled an appointment. Let's hope we're not shut down again in January.

Are you allowed to take leave on the first day of open?

Amen. There's something truly pathetic about complaining about having to rush back in at short notice when other people, the ones who are the public you serve, gave up a lot and are still frightened and uncertain about their futures because a deal was cut so you DO get to go to work and get all your pay and benefits. Including healthcare. Subsidy intact healthcare.

What exactly did I do to make other people uncertain and frightened?

We are all professionals and know how to check open.gov. Not sure what you expect?

At least at my place we get a barrage of texts, e-mails and calls notifying us of the operating status so I would just check your phone in the early a.m. and you'll know of your agency is open.

+1. This is EXACTLY why feds have a horrible reputation and why, many, like me (not MAGA but served in two agencies), want to see a reduction in workforce and waste.
