Sydney Sweeney movie "Christy" has one of the worst openings ever

lol

Let’s look at how this movie aligns with maga- lesbian, female boxer who faces domestic violence.

Lesbian- maga hates lesbians
Female boxer - maga hates female in sports
Lesbian woman leaves clueless husband- too close to home for maga
Domestic violence- maga support this
No white supremacist - maga no like.

Huh?

MAGA loves DEI sports for women. But they prefer ones with sexy outfits.

Christy is such a bad title too

I was hoping it was about Christy, the young woman who goes to teach in Cutter Gap TN in 1912. I loved that book.

Yes! I read that book SO many times as a kid.

I feel bad for the actual Christy; finally her story gets a big name and then bombs.

This. She courted controversy and a right wing base of support in a strange way (that may lead to more money for her in the long run, who knows) given that this project was coming out this year. MAGA doesn't care about female athletes outside of as a reason to hate on trans people; they were never going to show up for a movie about a lesbian boxer who doesn't present as femme.

If she was going to do the "why do lefties have to hate me for being pretty and blonde" Fox circuit, it should have been before the opening of Madame Web to give her new fans something to jump on and support. A MAGA superheroine!

Too many lead females in that movie - probably "woke" or something /s

Even if she hadn’t said anything about being MAGA, who would go see this movie? She might be a great actress but the only things she’s in always show her scantily clad at best. No one goes to see Sydney Sweeney act. This was a terrible casting choice from the jump.

+1

But I’ll go a step further: even with a different actress as the lead, this film was never going to be a commercial success.

The story just doesn’t interest most people. The trailer doesn’t interest most people.

I know Ruby Rose went off on Sweeney for ruining the film, but gimme a break…this film was never destined to be a big hit.

If you are Gen X, you realize this story lends itself to an old school movie of the week or lifetime movie: something free to watch if you are even just casually interested.

PS - I hope we can get back to a place where we don’t even know an actor’s politics.

I agree that it wasn't destined to be a big hit, but I still think this was a miscasting. Ruby Rose playing Christy could have created a bit of a cult LGBTQ angle, at least. Sydney Sweeney is a bubbly big chested sexbot; giving her a chance at Oscar bait in a role that does not in any way play to her strengths felt more like a favor to her or her agent
than a chance to boost the film.

She apparently begged the director for it too.

Unfortunately Sweeney has now branded herself as Maga and then proceeded to start in a movie no Maga would attend I even if they were paid to do so.

I thought this said Sydney Sweeney's movie was "Chesty" as I quickly scrolled past

Ruby Rose was never up for the role of Christy. She was attached to the film in the role of Cherry a while ago before Sweeney got involved. Anyway, seems like sour grapes.

You think she’s jealous she didn’t get to play a role in one of the worst box office performances in history?

Um, yes.

Ruby Rose has said that the film flopped because Sweeney ruined it. She said it would have been better if another actress played the role. She went on to blast having a maga hetero in the role.

I think critics fail to recognize this film never had legs to begin with. The story was never going to draw a big audience.

She may look weird, but she is an excellent actress

Yes she's not going anywhere. Even bad press is good. Even good movies flop at the theaters and bad movies do great.

Yea but making movies is a business. If you don’t make money then they stop putting you in starring roles.
