Tried to watch but barely made it through the first episode. The acting was certainly top notch, but the writing was clunky. Nearly every scene included exposition that wrecked any natural feeling to the dialogue. By the middle of the episode I felt like I was watching an ABC afterschool special.

Enhh, give it a beat. The average American needs some handholding to be reasonably oriented in Reconstruction electoral politics. The first episode has to be exposition.
