November Govt. Shutdown - Updates

Please listen when they spew.

They ie Republicans have zero incentives to reopen the House so .....

I keep seeing this but can’t find where and when he said it. Does anyone know the original source or is it just an internet rumor?

Another issue is that many Feds have saved up 2 weeks to be off over the school holiday. It’s usually the best time for me to take off since contractors and private companies give their employees these weeks off anyways. So if the shutdown goes longer but opens in December, Feds are going to have to take off. I mean what am I supposed to do? Enroll my kids in camps with the zero dollars I’m being paid?

I’m going to come back to a mountain of work when I return (public hasn’t stopped putting in work for me while I’m out). I have nooooo idea how I will be able to get through it or process things efficiently unless they hire some people for me. Such a mess.

Just start the December shutdown thread already.

Senate main issue is filibuster. They will not give that up. Feds are second.

Serious question - at some point would union sue for lack of pay? Seems not possible/constitutional to not pay people indefinitely while also forcing them to work under threat of being fired. We don’t have indentured servitude.

Unions were always toothless and a purely political entity — their only power was to weigh in on elections. And now that is powerless.

Let’s be real, nothing is happening before the new year.

Their goal was to traumatize federal workers.

He hates Obama and wants to destroy ACA. We can’t let health insurance premium more than double. They expire on December 31.

Republicans need to grow a pair and put forth a budget that can be voted on.

If they don’t healthcare goes up on January 1, and then there is nothing in the bill that the Democrats are against so a continuing resolution can be voted on.

Not true that bill is not clean. It gives Trump more power this is not only about healthcare in that bill.

Where do I find what else was changed?

That is so far away from my mind, let it go. Plenty of people in private sector lose leave because they don’t have time to use it, and many get far less vacation. It would be bad optics in current environment

Our agency told us to put in any use or lose leave through the end of the year. If it is cancelled due to the shutdown it will be restored. If you didn’t put it on, it will not be. I had 8 days of use or lose - 2 have already been cancelled and 6 are scheduled for Christmas break.

It has to be in by November 21 I think for it to get restored in the New Year

Are you new to the government?

You take the leave. Period. Put it in and get your boss to approve it now.

If for some reason, part of it gets canceled, they restored in the New year.

Yes, your husband might have to take some days off.

Under normal circumstances, our unions did a lot for us. When a sociopathic dictator takes over I agree they’re useless.

I think it gets resolved this week.

So from reading the coverage in The Hill, Politico, Punchbowl, CBS, etc., it sounds like the Senate will be in session until a shutdown deal is reached, including on Tuesday (Veterans Day) if needed. They are in session today and are going to vote again on the House-passed CR; they also are going to take a test vote on an amended CR to reopen through January 30 and include a three-agency (Ag, VA, military) minibus full year funding bill, although that would require the House to come back in session to approve.

It doesn't sound like any progress has been made on ACA subsidies.

Looks like there is going to be a deal - moderate dems will vote to reopen in exchange for promise to vote on ACA subsidies.

This makes zero sense to me. Johnson has said he won’t agree to the house voting on this, so the whole shutdown will be for nothing.

I’m a fed working full time unpaid. Anyone have any ideas or insider knowledge for how much longer this goes for?

You’ll get paid eventually. Contractors will not. It could go on a while. We have zero income. It sucks.
