For those that actually thought college applications would be down this year...

If this holds, expect a lot of deferral for ea and ed, schools want to wait for RD deadline to see if overall numbers are up, or if it’s just more kids choosing early over regular decision.

I have been surprised by Wake too. Kids whose stats would have been clear admits in previous years not accepted during early decision this year (and by all accounts, equal or better activities).

My kid has a 1410 and I was told they were basically cooked at Georgia (but loved the school and wanted to try).

Please look at the the thread that breaks down the chances of a 1530+ SAT scorer getting into a T20. It is a virtual guarantee.

A 1410 puts you safely in the 75%. You are a great candidate for admission.

That’s not what the thread covered…

I wouldn’t be surprised if more people with good test scores and good but not exceptional grades decided that it’s worth an application now that the grade inflated 4.0s with lower test scores won’t apply.

What do you mean good but not exceptional grades? If you mean kids with all As in area of interest and maybe 1-2 Bs in other area but not every AP or maybe a humanities kid who tapped out AP AB Calc, I agree. That profile plus a high test score and a compelling story why they are pursuing their major looks better than all A+ grades and all APs (where it is assumed grade inflation or grade grubbing).

If you mean a kid with a lot of Bs, I am not sure you make the cut at the top schools bc looks like you really weren’t trying.

Interesting take

I don’t think you understand how to extrapolate data correctly.

No, I just don't put my head in the sand.

lol at the people responding in this thread that actually think apps aren't going to be up across the board. I also think the southern school trend in increased applications will just continue.

It’s possible for there to be less applicants but an increase in total application numbers if students on the whole are applying to a g re greater number of schools. Still too soon to extrapolate from early application numbers for one university.

+1

And definitely not enough data to draw conclusions about overall # of applications.

This is what we have been hearing. There are fewer students applying than last year, but they are applying to more schools on average.

I think EA is up bc college counselors say you MUST apply EA if offered (as opposed to RD).

I am sure uva will shatter records this year since essays were removed. I guess that was expected. If you’re in state. And it’s your dream school and have the stats ed is a no brainer

Out of state Top Publics with relatively reasonable tuition will be way up.
