That was basically the plan floated the last time we did this - rezone Nottingham kids to surrounding schools and use the building as swing space as all of the crumbling schools are completely renovated. ASFS isn’t top of the list for worst condition, though. |
| They have too many elementary schools in one area due to geography. I would be more pissed as a taxpayer and parent if they didn’t repurpose facilities they had instead of cutting a completely different type of facility or spending tens or hundreds of millions for something new. |
anyone else? the post said members plural but you only named one. |
or maybe Jamestown. The building isn't in very good shape and it's so underenrolled they have to fill it up with county wide programs. But it's too far away to be practical for that. |
that makes no sense though |
yeah but the Taylor building really sucks. It's old and it has those weird dividers because of the failed open classroom concept. |
Ok with what money? I thought the bond capacity was maxxed out with the career center rebuild? |
It keeps MPSA in the same geographic area while saving money on operational costs for a sub-400 student building |
Agreed! The mold was an unpleasant discovery as well. It’s not at the top of the CIP list though so there must be other schools that are actually worse 😱 |
agreed, we should close all option schools and turn them into neighborhood schools |
Madison used to be an elementary school. We can’t fully predict demographics and closing schools leads to them being taken over by county for other uses and never returning them. |
Omg. The county is 5 miles wide. People in FCPS travel much further for AAP etc. make compelling options (like ATS 2) and people will make the distance. |
Extended day could be bused to their neighborhood school extended day, just another stop for the bus. |
you didn't understand my post at all |
| It’s sad that Arlington school facilities are in such bad shape. I feel like all of these school renovations are needed. We just need more money from the state or county to make facility renovations instead of pitting which schools needs to most against another. |
