WSJ Post on H1B reduces US worker wages -> https://archive.ph/f8bOk#selection-4423.12-4423.212

A new research paper on the effects of the H-1B visa program on workers suggests the influx of skilled foreign workers has historically led to lower wages and employment for American tech workers.

There are few jobs more portable than tech jobs.

Either we import the talent or they export the job.

BS if the job can be done from home, it can be done anywhere.

If they can do it from India why can't we do it from home?

Hint: They get paid a lot less.

Illegal immigrants are bad

Immigrants are good

Americans are not rejecting immigration.

What they're rightfully rejecting is current policy which is unfettered immigration. America has been overwhelmed by unfettered immigration. Add to that the flood of illegal immigrants, and they're fed up.

Are you being deliberately obtuse? Why?

In my experience in tech, a lot of the stuff outsourced to India ends up costing as much or more because corners were cut, requirements were misunderstood, things need to be fixed and done over, etc.

We have plenty of good home-grown STEM talent. Hire them first.

Our policies are incoherent. We import foreign STEM workers rather than hire the ones we already have and who do want to do the work, and we deport people doing grunt work that Americans don't want to do, like farming and cleaning and construction and landscaping.

Why are we, and especially MAGA, so obtuse about that? Sure, secure the borders. Sure, deport violent criminals. But why aren't we giving visas to the workers we actually need? And why are supposed Christians so hypocritical about refugees?

You want to know why. It's because any and every immigration policy has been abused. You want that "Christian" goodwill, but you are abusing it. Take a look in the mirror buddy. Maybe you should import more Christians if that is what you want.

Almost all of DCUM are in the US because their ancestors were immigrants.

And all those ancestors just showed up and worked. There were few if any requirements.

Hypocrites, all of you.

MAGA are also rejecting immigrant visa workers who are legally here. You are also being deliberately obtuse.

However, they don't seem to be angry at Trump for his business hiring said foreign workers over Americans.

+1 Trump's mother was a poor maid from Scotland. Trump's grandfather was a German, who probably didn't know much English when he came here.

Melania's whole family came here on a chain migration, and their family are communists, to boot.

Stephen Miller's family came here as refugees, and they probably didn't know much English, either.

Clearly, corporate heads don't care about quality; they care about profit. They don't care that the lowly minions have to deal with crap work product. As long as costs are cut, profits are up, they are happy.

Don't blame the immigrants or the foreign workers. Blame the greedy corporate execs, who also kiss up to Trump for favorable laws.

duh.. because it's cheaper to have it done in India. Why does Trump's hotels hire foreign workers over Americans? Because it's cheaper.

If illegal immigrants were taking jobs from lawyers and bankers, you’d hear a different story.

Many construction workers/ cleaners were not migrants years ago. Now, every business you call for some kind house related work or construction work unless it's Gov't, sends migrants, many barely able to speak English with the exception of the foreman. Don't tell me native born won't do the work because they used to do it. They just will no longer be hired since they can't be exploited as easily.

Boss refuses to pay you a living wage and you blame immigrants? These people come out desperation and yes will do those jobs for pennies. But your beef is with the boss. What is keeping minimum wage low? Do immigrants have legislative power or do they lobby the politicians to keep it low? Raise minimum wage and see how quickly your recent college graduate finds a job.

Blame the business owner, not the poor migrants looking for work.

Many years ago, the Irish blamed the Chinese for taking their jobs. So, the Irish attacked the Chinese, maimed them, lynch them, etc.

The masses fight for crumbs while the wealthy have a feast off the backs of the masses.

This is indeed why revolutions happened.
