DD is now really scared of growing up. I don't know how to comfort her fear or make her feel better. For what it's worth I read the book many years ago but don't remember it super well. What should I do?

Get her another book to read to get her mind off the clowns. The Shining was King's only really decent book anyway.

My kid and his 13-year-old friend read it and watched it and they are fine. Your DD was probably not exposed to enough of the real world to draw the line between fiction and reality.
