Percentage of BIPOCs at your child’s top pick

My kid is looking at schools with 25%-30% minimum POC, unless the school is close to a city. She's not really looking at schools that is less than that and far from a city because she doesn't know if they might have some of the shops, a church, or different other things that are helpful for daily life, if it's much smaller than that.

Wow. Pretty illuminating thread. With some of these responses, why would a student of color consider the diversity makeup of a school when choosing where to apply?

50/50, similar to his high school

I hate the terms BIPOC and POC. Should we use “people of no color” (PONC) to describe White people?

This is like asking why there’s no Anglo-American History month. Bit&$, do you not understand that every month is Anglo-American History month. For all the whining about liberal snowflakes and wokeness, no group gets more butthurt about the prospect of ceding power and being the center of the culture than white people.

They understand that no college is going to be as diverse as DCPS but it matters to them to be around people of different backgrounds, experiences, etc. They don't want to just hang out with white kids who have gone to majority white suburban schools in the midwest who have never met anyone of another color.

Very few DCPS schools are actually diverse. Maybe Jackson-Reed? Most are majority White or majority Black. That is not diversity.

My high stats south Asian kid looked at some of the same/similar schools and they are not safeties. They opted for a bigger, more diverse college environment more for social reasons.

Some people here saying they don't care are pretty aggressive about not caring, and are being obtuse with their questions.

The amount of diversity in a student body is something many people consider for good reasons. It has meaning. But there are a lot of things to consider. If it's something you don't personally consider, great. But if you are saying it in an aggressive manner or are rudely dismissive of those that do care, your answers are saying something about you.

Not interested in those stats.

So like America as a whole.

We would have gotten huge merit at Alabama, but crossed it off the list due to lack of diversity. We are a full pay POC family.

Never met anyone of another color?

I didn't know Jews were people of color. Someone forgot to let the progressive left know.

In all seriousness what is BIPOC? A pale skinned white Middle Easterner is not a black American. Or a south Asian.

BIPOC includes Biracial / Indigenous / Person Of Color.

What is this? The year 2010?

I don't understand references to past years like 2018 and 2010. What does that mean?
