They could also give out tickets if the trash containers are out too early and give speeding tickets! |
lol what a try hard troll. |

I have no problem with the guard--my nephew is a member of his state's guard.
But the ones I've seen have been standing around well-travelled areas in downtown DC looking bored and scrolling on their phones. They do not have the legal authority to intervene if they see a crime being committed. Perhaps their presence is enough to deter some petty crimes in high-traffic, business or touristy areas, but they're not in the neighborhoods where the most crime takes place. |
So-called crime is merely a social construct. |
Define “violent crime”. I count child molestation in that count, and it seems like our white male Christian MAGA friends are getting arrested all the time after committing abuse for years. If we really cared about crime, shouldn’t the NG be stationed outside of churches and anywhere else youth fellowships are meeting? |
| There were tons of national guard troops around when a teenager was shot near the national Mall (close enough that bullets hit the air and space museum). They did not prevent the crime and they did not catch the shooter. So no, I don't think they are having an effect. Maybe since it's getting cold and more of the troops are hanging out in the metro it will reduce fare evasion, but I doubt it. |
That’s an anecdote, not a statistic nor is it significant. |
By the way, $780 million is enough money to give every DC resident living below the poverty line an $8,200 check. It's enough to give every single-parent household 6 months of free childcare. It's enough to house every homeless person and feed every hungry family for multiple years. It's enough to pay for 10 hours a week of private tutoring for every single DCPS student. If you want to focus solely on reducing crime it's also enough to pay 5,200 extra cops for a year assuming a very generous $150k total comp. It's unconscionable that we're wasting that kind of money on the National Guard just standing around. |
Nonexistent results? The murder rate has dropped by more than 100 percent over the past 2 1/2 months. What more do you want? If it went from 100 murders from January 1 to August 12 and then went down to 0 murders for the rest of the year I swear some lunatics on here would still have their heads in the sand and say that it wasn’t making a difference. That’s not hyperbole. I believe a lot of people are that brainwashed by their ideology that they can’t even acknowledge MPD police data. |
A 100 percent reduction in the murder rate because the NG patrolling populated areas frees cops up to do their work is not a “waste of money.” I like less murders. Sorry if that is a controversial point in these hyperpoliticized times. I did not, and would never, vote for Trump if that matters. But I also am not a delusional partisan hack. |
| Look, all I know is the National Mall has never looked better! Litterbugs, consider yourself On Notice! MAGA! |
No the NG was on the mall and mulching plants. You maga types spend tax payers money like the drunks you are. |
| No one wants to live in a military state. It is troubling to see them on the streets even if they are just scrolling on their phones. |
The crime reports from DC during Trump’s occupational is fake. Police are making false reports like this

Also, there’s the opportunity cost of losing whatever else they would have been doing if they were elsewhere actually doing something they were trained to do. |
