I'm sure it is safe at the school.

Ironically, he was killed near Hutchison--which is where --a few years ago--that the site could be used for a new Western High School. It was a terrible site for many reasons--it would not have been in the area that needed the school, and the traffic patterns would have been terrible.

He was found at 9:30 pm and he had been playing soccer right there immediately before he was shot. There are kids soccer practices at that exact field Mon-Fri. I'm honestly shocked no one has been arrested yet when there are clearly known suspects.

I've been googling and trying to determine the lighting situation. According to what I found, there is one lighted field. It is dark by 7 p.m. We don't really know if he was playing soccer or not, but I agree it is likely. There is a lot we do not know and the dad may not know either.

The dad said he was playing soccer before he was shot, in his interview. His body was found right next to the fields. There's a lit turf field and three grass fields, there are often neighborhood kids and adults hanging out kicking the ball around.

What the heck? I’m an involved HHS parent and had so idea this happened! The email from the principal suggested it was a suicide. This is horrible!

Poorly written statement to the parents and the principal should be embarrassed that it implies suicide when it's far from it. Then again, not surprised as the SLHS Principal writes like a 3rd grader.

And now a stabbing?
Anonymous
Yes! Earlier today. The helicopter group keeps me informed.

Just checked google. Sad. He is in the hospital. Happened on Center St--which is pretty much in the heart of the Town of Herndon, but not sure where on Center St.

I think it was near the Townes of Herndon based on the report I saw.

This is terrible.

I get that you really want to justify not sending your rich kids to Herndon, but (a) this happened outside of school and (b) this happened to kids that are part of a community that your child will not be part of.

A kid got stabbed in the downtown?

Not the intended target of your insult, but there was a shooting followed by a stabbing within a week. At this point we don't know if the incidents are related or if the stabbing today was potentially retaliation for the shooting. If there's some type of serious beef between local youth gangs in Herndon emerging, the chances for others outside that "community" to get caught in the crossfire could escalate.

Hopefully they can get to the bottom of all this quickly and restore calm to the area.

Who would want to be a part of this community. Sounds awful

I know people whose kids have gone to Herndon and they liked it fine.

In all schools there are cohorts of groups of kids.

But, this is extremely troubling.

I would suggest that before sending more kids into Herndon, that effort gets put on solving the issues that seem to be occurring.

I don't have the answer, but pouring more kids in is not it.

There needs to be some crisis intervention here that includes counseling and law enforcement.

Are any kids even slated to move to Herndon HS as part of the boundary review?
