VA voting - democrat thinking about not voting all blue

I'm the OP and I know you won't believe me, but I have never voted for a Republican. As I get older, though, I just am tired of feeling like I have to vote Democrat even though I'm embarrassed by the candidates they put forward.

You all are convincing me on Jones but I'm not quite there yet.

He seemed pretty contrite to me. Think about the context - he was so upset Republicans would not stand up for kids getting blasted by guns in schools. He suggested nothing would happen unless Republicans kids were shot. Tasteless, not something one should put in writing, but unfortunately true. We’ve already seen that Republicans don’t care about the unintended consequences of their poorly worded abortion bans until pretty white Republican wives are the ones dying. They were all about blaming school shootings on the lack of God in schools until God failed to save children from being shot while in prayer.

The speeding I can’t excuse but he was held accountable. Virginia has some pretty draconian laws regarding reckless driving compared to other states. Still shouldn’t speed like that.

All in all, I think Jones burns hot. If you’re scared of angry black guys by all means vote for the “ nice” looking MAGA and get what you get. We already know Republicans want to gas us in their private text messages. If you want a fiery advocate for the things you care about, vote Jones.

DP. However, I can't vote for the angry black woman and have to vote for the nice looking boring white woman.

DP. I could have written OP’s post. Really do not like either Hashmi or Jones and struggling to decide how to vote. Angry that the Democrats could not find better candidates than these two.

Why don’t you run? Kind of sick of the so called Dem voters holding out for a reason to not vote Dem. You either care about the things you care about or you don’t. You’re accountable for the choices you make (or you don’t). Don’t blame the Dems for handing the Republicans control of you don’t like what the Republicans do.

You know it’s bad when Trump wouldn’t even vote for that angry black woman.

If Spanberger wants to sue the federal government for any one of the million things that it’s doing illegally at the moment that affects Virginians, the AG has to agree to do it. At this point in time, do you trust any Republican to address the issues of the average person, minorities, or even push back against Constitutional violations? As for Lt. Gov, a) do you think they get the deciding vote on something like a casino and b) which candidate is more likely to be in the pocket of big developers?

Uhh, the NoVA pushing the casino is a Democrat, so on your last point, I’d say a democrats is more likely in cahoots with developers.

This is actually the worst voting strategy possible. Candidates vote along their party lines. The party is what matters, not the individual. The “I don’t like her” method of voting is how we got Trump and all our other problems. None of these people are coming over to your house, as Bill Burr says. It doesn’t matter if you like them.

WTH? No wonder we are in this mess. Voting strictly by party is the worst.

Sears isn’t the “angry black woman”, she’s the batsht crazy MAGA who supports Trump and all of his lies and attacks on democracy.

For Lt Gov, though, I HATE that Hashmi is for the Tyson's casino, so I'm thinking of voting for Reid. I looked at his website and except for not supporting trans kids, I liked his platform.

For AG, I really think I will write in a candidate or not vote. I cannot vote for either of them and I'm sick of voting for the Democrat just because. I think that's the problem on both sides across our country.

Convince me otherwise - I'm going to early vote next week.

You don’t need a message board for this. Maybe we could show you a source and information for you to consider that you hadn’t seen, but that’s it.

Deciding what issues are important to you, figuring out if there is something else going on that you might want to consider, researching candidates and coming to a decision is just what thinking people do.

Partisans just rationalize whatever their chosen team does and rah rah themselves to the polls to vote regardless of the facts and effects.

We all understand that but this year you must look at the bigger picture. If you vote in a GOP candidate, you are essentially voting for Trump's policies to triumph. That's the reality right now.

Correct. If she were actually an "angry black woman" who wanted to fight for things that would benefit citizens, sign me up.

+1 Will hold my nose and vote for Jones, but sorry the Tysons casino issue is the only one I care about right now in VA politics, so I’m not voting for Hashmi. Will probably leave it blank.

Resistance isn’t always simple and requires sacrifice. Luckily, fighting this authoritarian regime doesn’t require shooting any one with a laser gun, but voting for a candidate that you’re not entirely in love with is a necessary sacrifice.

+1 And enough people not making said necessary sacrifice in 2016 is why we’re here now.

The republican administration has been clear that they will do whatever it takes to ensure that Republicans maintain control of the government. They’re pardoning J6 rioters, gerrymandering, intimidating voters and candidates, restricting access to voting, and so much more. Having an AG in VA that will defend against the attacks on elections in VA is vital.

This X1000 but I would broaden it as an attack on states rights and individual rights.

A Republican AG makes VA more attractive for the BS that the Trump administration comes up with and the Project 2025 nonsense.

In the past sure! But now the system is broken and you have a lawless administration gutting the country for personal gain rubber stamped by the Republican Party and funded by tech bros. I’m a centrist but even I would vote for a progressive over the current Republican Party. If this were 1990 my answer would be different but it’s not.
