They aren't believable as a real couple at all. I'm still watching because I'm curious, and like some of the other cast (Toni Collette, the teens) but can't say I'm loving it.
Agree. In the first scene of them driving in the car, I thought they were mother and son. I didn't realize they were a couple until they kissed. And there was still zero chemistry even after I knew.

I'm almost done with the 2nd episode, and nothing is really pulling me in. I only started watching because I love Toni Collette, but she's only been in a few scenes so far, and I'm considering just giving up on it.

That's hilarious. And very dumb.

This ended up being such a dumb show. With a few exceptions, the acting was horrible.

Sloppy.
I googled and it said those kids were brought in from another town. Not sure how the audience was supposed to figure that out.

What about the kid who got stabbed by Alex and was upset about Laura supposedly mumbling? They never addressed that. Also, what about the toads? Was there a point to that storyline?

The kids from the school were adopted into the town. I figured that was where the kids clothes came from.

Mumbling i assume she was.mumbling the stuff about the door since it triggers the trance/hypnotisim.

Toads are what the psychedelics that they were giving the kids to make the leap came from.

I'm not even sure I understood what Toni Collette's character did that was so wrong/illegal. The school itself (apart from the weird hot seat thing) seemed to be okay. Not terrible, nor worth risking your life to run away from.

The main character's storyline was pretty weak; never really understood his arc.

I thought Toni Collette was magnetic, best part of it by far.

She hypnotized them to completely sever any emotional connection. I assume taking away an individuals ability to truly love is wrong. Plus she planted false memories in order to sever that connection.

The actor playing Alex is absolutely awful.

They read their lines like someone reading off a teleprompter for the first time.

They just royally suck at acting.

Not Mae Martin's best role. They were better in the other Netflix show, and also had much much better chemistry with the woman cast as their romantic partner there. There was a bit of vanity in the writing too. Oh look, Alex takes his shirt off again. Once, great. I'm all for normalizing non-binary bodies. Then in the birth scene, the mom is dressed while he rushes to take his top off. It was a little silly.

I'm not sure how I feel about this series. I didn't hate it, and at times found it fairly engrossing, but it was very uneven.

Yeah, kinda hoping there isn't a season 2 because then I'll feel the need to watch it. I don't think the Laura actress can replace Toni Colette in the big heavy role. Not even close.

I started it. Finished the first episode, found the lead character annoying and not a good actor. Started the second episode and never finished it.

It scares me that they paid someone to do this show and let them act….

The cast is such a mixed bag for me. Toni C made the series, agree it probably shouldn't continue without her. I liked Abby a lot but if she's gone, not so interested in Leila. Some of the other more interesting teens also now gone. Don't like Laura and Mae is meh in this particular role, so overall not a fan of a second season.

Given that it's eccentric and uneven, it's interesting to me that this series seems to have done quite well in terms of viewership.

Watching this now. I'm partway through the penultimate episode and bored. I was really interested for the first half or so. But then it was just more and more of the same. Mae Martin is captivating, though.

Agree. They seemed like strangers who had no real intimacy. It was weird.

Nonsense. Your trans / homophobia is showing.

NP. Please. They were so awkward together.

Agree. No chemistry at all.
