BCC in lockdown, Sept 4th, 2pm?

Latest message from the school:

Dear Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Community,
This afternoon, our school enacted a Secure in response to information we received from the Montgomery County Police Department. Police notified us that they had received a call from an unknown individual who claimed to be on the way to “Chevy Chase High School” with a gun and a bomb.
Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately initiated a Secure—this means anyone outside was brought into the building, all exterior doors were confirmed as locked, and classes continued as normal inside. At no time was the school in a full Lockdown. Police quickly arrived, searched the building thoroughly, and determined that there was no threat. They have advised us that this is believed to be a “swatting” incident, more commonly known as a hoax.
Dismissal began at 2:35 p.m. I want to acknowledge that while school operations continued during the Secure, incidents like this are disruptive and unsettling for students, staff, and families. The behavior of the individual who made this false report is inexcusable. We will continue to fully support the police in their ongoing investigation to identify and hold accountable the person responsible.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work together to ensure the safety and security of every member of the B-CC community.
Sincerely,

Kevin Yates
Acting Principal
Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School

I hope, if the police can figure out who made the call, there are very severe consequences. This “prank” isn’t funny. If the person who did it isn’t punished more incidents will follow.

More will follow anyway. This is the third incident at mcps high schools in the past two days, right? NW, Rockville and now BCC?

So you can do what?

So the helicopter parents can ask to speak to the school staff and police officers trying desperately to do their job so the parents can know everything that is going on RIGHT THAT SECOND.

I’m also BCC and that’s why I think this thread is stupid. It does nothing to help to spread rumors on DCUM while the school and police are working hard to get the situation under control. Like several people on this thread said, BCC had communications out to parents quickly so the people who most needed to know knew. The rest of the schaedenfreuders can go find something else to do.

Exactly! And when it’s your kid and they text that they’re in lockdown and scared, let me tell you, you’ll be glad the kid had a cell phone so that could communicate with you. And you can reassure them. And know what’s happening from someone there and not waiting for a parentvue message.

DP. No, we're not all nervous obsessives. I lived through a dozen bomb threats as a kid, and my parents didn't even know until I told them. If you have a modicum of perspective, you'll realize that being scared is insane. If you can't see that take your problems to therapy. Until then I'll heckle you all I want. You deserve it.

My kid was scared. I was able to help calm him down. Because of cell phones. If that makes me a nervous obsessive, fine. I’m not going to apologize for caring about my kid. Sorry you don’t.

Know our kids are alive for one thing. Call 911 if needed.

Kids aren't killed with bombs in school, they are killed with guns and other weapons.

What is having this information going to do for you but scare you? Let the school and authorities do their jobs.

Because I was just about to leave my location to pick her up. Now I won't until she gives me the all clear.

And stop your bullshit. You'd want to know what was going on too, if it was your kid. BCC had two lockdowns for weapons last year.

I know. I’m at BCC too. But getting minute to minute updates from your kid on a cell phone they’re not supposed to be using during the school day doesn’t change the outcome of a crappy situation.

OP here. Just lay off, will ya: my kid was in PE, where the teacher cancelled the activities, gave them all free points and allowed cell phone use. I'm sure some DCUM readers are glad I made the thread.

Well if you’re sure that spreading rumors to the Internet at large is a great thing, congratulations . I don’t see the purpose of this when MCPS shared a communication to all those in the BCC zone very quickly.

New poster. What rumors? And are u fckking kidding? Families knew long before message from school or mcps. They have not improved communications as they said they would.

Did they have signal in the place wherever PE was held? Weight room, outside or locker rooms/bathrooms?
