We can't teach kids that are not behaved well enough to learn and when there is chaos in the classroom the good students can't learn either. Further, when principals blame the teachers we feel helpless and attacked professionally as we are getting literally attacked and told not to write reports or address it or we face having to take the accountability for it regardless. Then we resign or are fired or forced to resign involuntary. I even know how to answer the question bc it was such a gray area as I was a new teacher and my school was so dirty the reports were just made up. I get it principals are busy but this -we need a fall guy mentality and teachers will take the fall is proving itself to not be a good idea.

You can't be forced to resign.

You are incredibly naive if you believe this to be true.

Nope. You either resign willingly or get fired. Let's not pretend that if someone was asked to resign involuntarily, there wouldn't be another 500k lawsuit. It's not legal.

Saying someone was "forced to resign" does not = "someone was asked to resign involuntarily."

If you're a manager, you know that there are ways to get employees to resign without ever asking them to.

What’s your alternative?

Bring back suspensions? That’s been shown to be racist.

Expulsions? All that does is support the school to corporate prison pipeline.

And this is America; every student is innocent until they are proven in a court of law; besides: what about their education? Don’t they have a right to an equal education too? Can’t do that if you are constantly suspending kids (plus their acting out really isn’t their fault. If they got the wrap-around services they deserve then none of this would be an issue.)

Hello. I’m a kid who went to NEC schools all their life. Till now. Come a few weeks, I’ll be in a Catholic high school.

I’m a Black American boy, and for 10 years I’ve witnessed fight after fight, curse-out after curse-out, and just overall heinous groundskeeping. Despite the fact that I’m in a group that’s the most suspended, I’ve never been. I go to school, mind my business, come home with no issue.

Half the fights are about the dumbest 💩 known to man—stuff like “Oh I stole your 🐕 what are you gonna do about it?” or some dumb Instagram beef. And these kids never get any kind of repercussions. They look at me weird for going to class like a normal human being.

I absolutely think that expulsions should be brought back. There’s no reason—with the COL as expensive as it is—that my mom has to pick up a second job to pay for private school just so I can walk to class without seeing a daily fight in the hallway.

For people asking if the NEC schools are that bad: they are.

For extra info, my journey was this:
Burtonsville Elementary (2015–2020)
Benjamin Banneker Middle (2020–2023)
Paint Branch High School (2023–2025)

You could have worked this summer to help pay for it.

What if you don't resign and they lie to the unemployment office saying you resign. That is what happened to me. Dllr said you can't receive benefits bc you resigned. I had to point out the lie with paperwork
( the letter). They eventually overturned the decision but it was just weird the lengths that they will go through to lies and make teachers lives more difficult.

You’re switching HS for junior and senior year? What school even has an opening in that grade except for extreme circumstances or kids of families moving into an area?

Most have openings for 11th grade 12th grade is when it gets hard. It should be noted that my mom is full pay so that might’ve helped with me being admitted.

Hopefully its documented. I worked for the county and went on maternity leave. My supervisor threatened me that if I took more than 6 weeks, she'd make my life very difficult and try to fire me. She put it in an email. I got unemployment as soon as I sent it in.

The expectations at these schools are so low. If they raised the bar, they might find kids are better behaved and less worried about safety. Americans have turned so soft and scared.

Honestly, I wanted to but my mom wanted me to study so I can be ready due to the more advanced rigor of my next school, had that not been the case I would’ve probably picked up
A job.

As evidenced by this post, all the sympathy is with the troublemakers.

After 20+ years of trying to solve this problem - spending tons of money, never trying to fix the parents - I'm just done with it. I don't care about the troublemakers anymore. Yes, give them services and hopefully they will choose a better path but once they choose the wrong path, we can't keep pouring unlimited resources into them.

Those resources (money and time) need to go to students such as this young man:

There are plenty of good students in those schools. We need to help the ones who are willing to be helped. We need to help students like the one above so his mom doesn't have to work a second job so he can go to a private school.

Good luck at your private school and do well! Make sure you go easy on your mom, too

This is how I feel too. We need to stop focusing all our attention on the troublemakers and instead invest our resources on the great majority of kids who are in school to learn and better their lives. We need to provide education for everyone, but that does not mean leaving kids who are terrorizing classes in the classroom. They can be placed in in school suspensions, provided virtual instruction, or whatever. But we need to stop normalizing bad behaviors in schools and on school grounds.

No. But I wanted to identify my demographic as I know that that can affect a lot of things when talking about discipline in schools.
