I find Cynthia Erivo's nose ring so distracting

+1 To me this is not a Cynthia Erivo thing, it's a septum piercing thing. I've never seen one that looks good at all. Not on men or women! I think a regular nose piercing can range from inoffensive to really pretty, but the septum - why does anyone do that? Distracting, ugly, and strange enough that I question the person's judgment.

She’s an ugly person inside and out. The nose ring just emphasizes that.

But I also find the shaved head and nails equally....I'll just say distracting to be charitable.

The whole package just isn't working.

No idea why she got selected for the big stage. She can sing I guess, but so can a lot of people.

If you think "a lot of people" can sing like Cynthia Erivo, you're deranged.

DP but I agree with PP. I don't think she is an amazing singer at all. I find her whole personality annoying.

Same. I do wonder why she wants so much attention like that.

+2. She is a good singer. But there are many, many good singers on Broadway and the West End, and I don't see why she's been put on such a pedestal.

I agree that septum piercings are ugly and it does nothing for Cynthia’s appearance. As for why she was selected, do you really have to ask?

Not my cup of tea personally, but I love her.

She's a serious marathon runner.

The reaction is fairly visceral.

Both she and Ariana Grande look demon-possessed and I can't look at them. Unhealthy and sick.

I'm not OP, but like Cynhia Erivo, I'm black and I'm from the UK and I can't stand her or the nose ring.

Is that OK with you?

Image is everything.

All this has a purpose: to get her noticed. In her business, practically any attention that's not sexual assault is good attention, and therefore, her style is not only a reflection of her personal taste, it's also a savvy business decision. It gives her a lot of recognition factor, which translates to being remembered and chosen for acts and songs and events, which translates into money. If you think about celebrities in the performing arts, you'll notice a lot of them have a dramatic style that is their own. It helps them stand out in their very cutthroat careers.

(Personally, I disapprove of her style choices entirely, especially the nose ring, because it emphasizes her nose, which is not her best feature... but that's entirely besides the point.)

Maybe you should take a look inside to see why she triggers you so much. Very odd.

Maybe you should examine why my dislike for her is triggering you? I'm allowed to like or dislike whoever the F I please. It's odd that you find that odd.

Wow. Pause for a moment to think you’re speaking about another human being.
