Well, they say a lot of things, but unfortunately not much to come out of this administration is believable or credible anymore.

Such deflection.
Law enforcement needs probable cause and needs to identify itself. Two elements lacking here.

We remain a nation of laws. Extrajudicial detention is not acceptable.

There is no obligation to provide identity in the absence of reasonable, articulable suspicion (RAS) that the person has committed a crime, is committing a crime, or is about to commit a crime. In the absence of that RAS, the police can request ID, and demanding ID is a violation of the 4th Ammendment.
