Likes and don'ts about your neighbor/s

Not friends
They let their dogs bark constantly. As soon as one dies, they get another one. They must’ve had 15 dogs since we’ve lived here. They seem to have free roam of the backyard and bark at us whenever we are out there.

SFH - They built a backyard basketball court. There is literally a neighborhood court a 3 minute walk from their home. I didn't realize how freaking loud basketballs are. I can hear it in my house with the windows closed. I like my neighbors. I hate the basketball.

Feral cats being cared by neighbors. Same feral cats come over we are not into feral cats, go away. If we wanted cats we would have already gotten one or a few.

Anonymous wrote:SFH. Suburban development of late 1960s homes - same house for 20 years. Complete turnover now 2 cycles. When we bought, multiple original owners still remained. I think there are now 2.

Relevant because we went from moving in at the wave of similar aged young families and a full school bus with ES kids. Yes, we all knew each other through school and sports. Now the families like us who remain are empty nesters.

One renter lives next door. We text ICE (can you grab a package? It’s raining! Or, can you bring our trash cans in?) Other neighbor more of same but we trade house keys and relevant info (tree workers might be working in early a.m./we are gone for the weekend FYI).

No socializing. Maybe annual block party but admittedly don’t enjoy w/o kids.

Problems are: dogs (one neighbor’s dog is always bolting out the door and literally chasing cars, trotting around everyone’s yards) and just as bad or worse, dogs on extended leashes who get walked over, across and around everyone’s -ESPECIALLY OURS yards. I mean so close that I routinely would scoop poop from a few steps from my porch!( We have never had a dog.)

I’ve PP in related threads but this I don’t understand: why, all of a sudden, it seems that
dog owners allow their leashed dogs to urinate and defecate all over other people’s lawns. All ages owners/dog breeds/not just in my neighborhood. We have a newer camera and several neighbors have caught and shamed scofflaws. I got a very nice keep off the grass sign that seems to help. Infuriating and outrageous - so disrespectful, gross and entitled. We also have a nice pocket park that sits unused (never seen a dog get walked there) and within sight of our house. Why then do the neighbors go down private driveways and let their dogs poop all over the place?

If you kept asking me to bring your trash in without being friends, I would let my dog poop on your yard too. WTF

Fencing behind their property line until I remove their weeds, then moving their fence back

Stabbing nanny's tires

Holes in roof, window falling off

Gutters falling off

Diesel truck

Leaf blowing 7:45am

Constant, relentless landscaping projects, including tree pruning and leaf blowing yet it all still looks like sh--

All immediate neighbors redoing roofs same year

Hoarders who turn into 10-month tear down projects

Neighbors without trash collection

Neighbors who appear to enslave intellectually challenged tenants and force them to do difficult labor tasks

Not mowing lawn until it's more than waist high

Get a couple traps, trap them, take to animal control. Problem solved.

That's quite a list. Stabbing nanny's tires is kind of a big one.

And let's add having tree pruning (same tree) FOUR times in one month. I love chain saws and leaf blowing afterwards.

How many times per month can the same tree be pruned? Weekly? Every 3 days?

No why should WE do any work THOSE cats?

One of our neighbor’s cats always comes to say hello and it bit my kid yesterday. It was kind of my kid’s fault and I’m not that mad but the double standard for cats is pretty insane.

SFH. Quite, leafy, no-drama, small neighborhood. Not too many pets or crazy dogs. People with dogs have fenced in and locked backyards. Good and involved neighbors, we have an listserv. Most trashy or racist neighbors have left the neighborhood, so these are the peaceful years. More than 50% are original owners. Not great schools so it attracts older people. Close to most amenities you can think of - shopping, movies, hospitals, trekking, park, art-theatre, library etc. I am super close to many of my neighbors and it really feels like a family. Not a gossipy lot. Super helpful. We look out for each other.

There is very little I don't like about my neighborhood.

My neighbor and her kids shovel our driveway during every snow. Give us seedlings and fruit from their garden. Keep us supplied with Girl scout cookies. They are a dream!

Immediate next door neighbors - love them. We watch out for each other and are friends.
Other next door neighbor - depends, it's a revolving door of renters and the owners only rent to people from Brazil, so they rarely if ever speak English. That doesn't bother me, but it doesn't allow for us to have any conversation.
Behind - the most loathsome creature to ever walk this earth in my opinion. Threatens us with guns, hits his kids, police have been called, and I hate him. One day finally just lost my sh!t on him and oddly enough that seemed to do the trick. He hasn't spoken to or bothered me since.

Biggest dislike my lazy neighbor who claims her dog is trained yet lets it bark at all hours of the day, especially annoying when she lets the beast out at bedtime and doesn't call it in until t has barked at any and everything that goes by and woken up half the neighborhoods.

Also never bothered to train the dog how to walk on a leash so never walks it or lets it leave the yard.

Ugh. I've seen several of these in my neighborhood and agree they must be the the worst for neighbors.
