Relocating Kentlands/Lakelands schools

But everyone I know who lives there is worried about the school or had to scaffold their child through it and then had to do so again at QO which has admittedly improved a TON in recent years. I just wish there was a way for K/L residents to do something to help improve their schools situation yes including the unpopular notion to rezone part of it to dufief which is not as crowded. Middle school I don’t have a solution. Ridge view is not an alternative.
Our schools Frost and Wootton have been fantastic but MCPS will not update them over equity issues and wootton is falling apart and MCPS won’t do anything.
MCPS IS A HOT MESS.

Since Wittman was recently updated, your equity thoughts are probably not accurate.

Named after noted poet and essayist Walt Wittman.

We send our kid to private school, as does about 20-25% of the people living in our neighborhood.

Please, please please - there is the single best school my daughter ever had just north of Lakelands - 7 minutes without traffic: Mary of Nazareth.

AVOID MCPS at all cost. (Lived across from Kentlands in Dufief but neighbors taught there).

100% misinformation

How so?

FACT: Wootton was updated last in the 90s.

Go private, OP!

I can’t really say for sure — it’s just my own experience. My kid goes to Norwood and I know anecdotally maybe 7-8 other families in the neighborhood with kids there. I know a bunch of families who send their kids to Seneca Academy, which is a K-5 school close by. I also know of families whose kids go as far as Sidwell or GDS. Then there are the families who opt for religious schools, like CESJDS or Mary of Nazareth.

So it varies.

WES has an amazing middle school.

Or go to Christ Episcopal School - 10 minutes up the street in downtown Rockville. Many of their grads go on to MCPS specialized and IB programs. It is worth the investment. We were in MCPS through elementary school and moved to CES for middle school. Great academics, daily recess (yes for middle schoolers!) and daily P.E.

Not really a good option for Jewish families, of which there are a lot in Kentlands/Lakelands.

Christ Episcopal School is an excellent school and only about 15 minutes away from Kentlands/Lakekands. Good luck, OP!

Imagine MCPS trying to balance Wootton's demographics in the upcoming rezoning but also being afraid of the optics of sending lower income kids to a school that's falling apart. They're going to have a stroke.

Not everyone is Jewish in the Kentlands/Lakelands. AND believe it or not, there are some Jewish families enrolled at the school.

We looked at CES. They told us they didn’t have any families where both sides are Jewish.

LPMS has some of the struggles of most public middle schools. My kid went there and had good teachers and absolutely no issues. Private school is no better education and only have less issues since they can throw out kids that aren't as privileged as your little snowflake. I'd rather teach my kids to navigate real life.

Something tells me you didn’t have a terrific education, considering you can’t use “less” vs “fewer” correctly.

Nah, just someone who doesn’t generalize about entire categories of schools.
