Yup. My daughter did a week of camp in NYC —she loved it. |
Camp is not a vacation experience |
Ok I have absolutely no opinion on whether SAHMs should or should not put their kids in camp but I will say, I'm pretty sure my kids think camp is better than vacation. If I gave them a choice of a week with us on vacation, or a week at their favorite summer day camp, I think they'd pick camp. Depends on the vacation I guess. |
We have a beach house and my kid went to surf camp for several summers. This wasn’t something we could teach her and she loved it. |
We did a part time sailing camp for a week when we were on Cape Cod because our kids wanted to sail and we couldn't easily rent a boat. |
Seems like forever ago (long before covid), spouse had a remote/flexible job, and I was a teacher. We spent nearly 2 months in ME, and kids did a sailing camp and occasionally some other camps (they are young adults now, and much younger at the time, so I don't remember exactly). But we all remember that as a great summer! |
Oh bless your heart for worrying about them. They are in HS and college now and I assure you are great. |
My kids would never choose camp over vacation. |
There is at least one place in VT that people seem to love where it offers adult and kid camp. It is fairly high end…the kids are entertained with kid camp stuff while the adults get to have guided hikes or rafting trips and what not. The families eat dinners together with entertainment.
Everyone raves the entire family loved it. |
If we go to a beach all-inclusive or not all-inclusive, or mountains, skiing, never a camp. Only for two days when they were young, and we wanted them to learn to ski with a group and with the pro instructor. If I was going for a month or two to my home country, yet, DS attended a tennis camp. He wanted to.
They are now young adults, so this was what we did in the past. |
Pay attention to this post! |
If you have baseball playing kids, the day camps run by the various Cape Cod teams are fun. My kids liked those. |
Mine iike both but would be upset if we were on vacation, not specifically for a camp for them and dropped them off at camp. But, we don't take many vacations. |
My parents used to do this. And here’s what I took away from it— they wanted a vacation from me. (1980s, teacher mom home for the summer, so not a working situation).
I mean… no doubt I was a handful as a kid. But, way to make me feel that way. |
I wouldn’t, but we never travel for more than two weeks and always have lots of things we want to do together.
If I was going away all summer I would consider as it’s unlikely you’ll be sightseeing for extended trips. |
