Why is it difficult to get As in private school? DC worked really hard, and all assignments are good, still got a B+

My niece is starting 11th grade and has never received less than an A since first grade in any subject at her private school. Maybe your kid just isn't good enough?

Really? This is unnecessary, not helpful, and just a way to brag. Of course there are others have children with no B's too, but that doesn't help the OP.

I am always weirded out when anyone knows that much about a niece or nephew.

I don’t have a clue about their grades, nor would I care to ask. Why do you know this or ask about it?

So one of my kid’s friend will write a paper for English like an hour or two before it is due. The kid gets A’s every time. This is at a big3 that many posters complain about the grading being too hard in English.

How in the world would your kid know this for every paper? My high school kids don't know what their best friends get on papers and they certainly don't know exactly when they write them either.

I will say that some kids lie and exaggerate a lot about grades at these schools. Many can't be taken at their word-my kids have learned this over time-especially at college time. Some of the kids who bragged about grades for years actually weren't doing well.

Well you are wrong in this case. Those two are really good friends but competitive with each other.

Enroll in GDS high school where everyone gets all A’s.

Seriously?

Sounds like we need to move to the French system.

Your niece probably goes to a third tier private.

OP’s child probably goes to a Big3 at which some teachers refuse to give out As on principle.

Maybe get a life? Insulting children you don’t know is so classy.

To OP, you should have your kid communicate with the teachers to see what improvement is needed. Even in big 3, grade inflation is the norm nowadays. They say STA now has average GPA at 3.8. B+ basically means below standard. I would worry if your kid's gpa is much lower than A- consistently.

It's pretty easy to figure out what they didn't earn an A on. Beyond that, they (again, not you) need to talk to the teacher to see why they earned what they did.

There’s a couple schools around here that refuse to use learning management systems and have no accountability for the teachers to return grades or have transparency in any way

Ugh, really? Can you say which ones you know of? I think it’s important for students to have as much feedback and transparency as possible about their grades and progress in class, but it honestly didn’t occur to me that not all schools provide that (I’m aware that many schools don’t have *parent* access to this granular info—I’m talking about student access).

Potomac lacks an LMS and there is no accountability for how grades are determined or conveyed. Parents and students have no way to track grades other than what the teacher writes in an interim report or conveys verbally. There is no common algorthym used to calculate grades. It's ridiculous and needs to be addressed.

You posted this about STA in multiple threads and you need to stop. It's not true and STA doesn't even use a 4.0 scale.
