Good. Stop lying on applications. Parents: set a good example for your kids. |
A lot of people embellish hours.
Difference btw 2 and 3 hours a week? If you include travel time… |
This. I think the same thing and here is why: If she’d been accepted to Stanford, everyone would have known. Her friends, the school, family, jobs, friends of parents, etc. months later if it was rescinded, she’d likely tell no one why. Too embarrassing and reputation ruining. Instead, by revealing this and allowing it to be public, everyone who thought she was going there but changed her mind or couldn’t afford it or whatever would now be able to suspect or know it was her. This did not happen. |
I bet they found some other suspicious stuff too but that was the easiest one to prove. Hopefully the ac’s are realizing these kids apps are too good to be true. |
At the time, I thought that “valedictorian” just meant the person who gives the speech (which I did). I didn’t realize it would be seen as a misrepresentation. I didn’t write down “first in the class” or anything like that. |
but she only told this guy, who blabbed to the world. I believe it. |
Still easy to calculate. The "Stanford reject" lied. Not hard to say 4 hours/week for 12 weeks. She said 12 hours/week for 32 weeks. Huge difference. She lied. Also for a hackathon team, the AO will have an idea what that involves. You do your best to calculate it. But the "SR" outright lied, why? Because it worked for getting admission. Had they not verified, it was impressive enough to get admission that's why people lie. |
Seriously, that’s nuts to go right to thinking a staff person would lie out of envy. I used to write recommendations and confirm volunteer hours for HS and college kids as a non-profit employee. I was always so thrilled and happy when one of “my” kids was successful in whatever they were trying to do. Also suspicious that this article may be fiction. |
He claims she allowed him to post about it. 0% chance this is real. |
Not likely. the applicant outright lied. 48 hours per year (12*4) is very, very, very different than 382 hours per year (32*12). |
They go on to become Elizabeth Holmes |
I was going to post something like this. My kid did a service activity that was sometimes just a couple of hours a week and at other times was over 40 hours a week (in the summers) and it was very hard to try to be accurate on the common app. |
Employers will also fire people who cheat on their CPE. Facts.
No one wants to associate with people who lack personal integrity. |
Just not as much. Yeah...like approximately 10% of what she claimed. That's not embellishment. That's straight up lying. You can't mistake that. |
1000% click harvesting IMO. How many DESERVING apps does Stanford receive? My guess is alot. You think someone is calling all the references? I call bs. |
