Lord. Only on DCUM. The woman likes reading smut and you are suggesting she get checked for ovarian cancer and adrenal issues. |
I dunno OP. Maybe you should just lighten up and just lean into what you actually enjoy. It must be exhausting to be nearing 50 and holding yourself to this meaningless standard. |
+1 One of the great things about getting older is not GAF. |
The OP asked if this could be because of hormones gone crazy. Most women are entirely unaware of the effects of having high testosterone that happens suddenly. I know way more about this than you obviously do. Being unusually interested in sex and/or smut does not necessarily indicate this but it is a possibility. Do you think it's better if women don't know that? |
Right??? A woman has an interest in sex - totally normal, in fact, healthy and good. But instead of celebrating it and offering book/movie suggestions, we're going to pathologize you. |
OP here. it's actually a good suggestion (thanks to that PP). I've known smut exists since I was a teenager and until last fall would not have had any interest in it. And now, it is the best part of my day ![]() But yes, I am open to enjoying it while I work out what is going on, so recommendations are welcome as well! Thanks also to the book club PP. I didn't expect actual kindness on here. |
Do you mean you're consuming pornography?
Normal. It'll get you off. |
Thanks for being open minded OP. I know someone, a post menopausal woman, who suddenly had some symptoms that led her dr to test her testosterone only to find that it was off the charts high. This person was quite surprised to find that this could even happen but it explained her heightened interest in sex among other things. She had to have her ovaries removed once they determined they were the source of the testosterone. It hasn't been long enough now to know whether all her symptoms will resolve or how long that will take. Drs don't routinely test that in women, you have to bring it up. If you decide to do that I hope it turns out you are just feeling pretty frisky and there is no medical issue involved. |
Oooh can you give me book recommendations please? |
The Story of O The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty & books (written by Anne Rice under pen name) |
Same - how dare you start this thread and then not offer us any examples and suggestions! |
50 and I feel like I am going to jump out of my skin with anxiety over the state of the world. I wake up at 4am and put on NPR and my gd, it's just one horrible thing after another. Waiting for November - and fearing what might happen - has me in a permanent state of brain fuzz. I can't imagine I am alone in this. (Though wouldn't that be great if no one else were feeling this way.) If sh**ty tv and terrible books help us get through the day, there's worse ways to cope. |
Can't relate - I've loved romance for decades. |
My mom had a stress heart attack from watching the news all the time. I'm not saying check out and be uninformed, but you don't have to wake up and put on NPR (or any news) and in fact I think you shouldn't. Listen to something fun or relaxing. |
But why are there no book recommendations? I've done 50 Shades of Gray. What's next? |
