Space Forces is not a new capability. It was a reorg of the Air Force because Trump thought it sounded cool and that was easier than doing any real work, despite being counterproductive.
Space can be observed. You don't need embedded reporters on the satellites. |
Is "Air Force" a cheesy name too? "Coast Guard"? Where does the Commander in Chief keep his armies? Up hiss sleevies! |
That is not how it works, nor are we at liberty to tell you what their purpose might or might not be |
I know someone new-ish to the area whose husband is in Space Force. Like a typical military family they seem to move around a lot. He’s working w NASA right now on something. I jokingly asked if it was like the Steve Carrell show, and she answered, “I mean yeah, kind of!” But yeah, I don’t have any juicy deets to offer. |
My sense is most of the DC Space Force personell just spend a TON of time in meetings carving out MOUs on their jurisdiction. And on meeting with contractors. |
Op here. Thanks PPs. What are the chances it gets absorbed into another branch? |
Like many, i mocked space force when it was announced as it seemed like a typical hairbrained Trump move.
I've since changed my tune after understanding their mission more and watching interviews with their leadership, who are legit, serious people. Press Secretary Jenn Psaki had the same thinking when asked about them in her first couple weeks, then was briefed, and quickly changed her tune. https://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2021/02/06/why-the-space-force-is-no-laughing-matter.cnn |
They just created it so, basically no chance. |
USSF manages DoD satellites, handles acquisition for many satellites, and they also staff the ICBM sites on land. |
Low. It is the rare reorg that mostly seems to be working out. And if it did, it would be merged back with the USAF. Both are part of thr Department of the Air Force, just like both USN and USMC are part of the Department of the Navy. |
Actually, the uniforms seem to be a mixture of USAF clothing and Star Trek symbols/pins. |
They will defend our country—in every way. |
You Are or were in the Army... |
If you're envisioning ship to ship combat, you're mostly correct. But otherwise, yes, the Navy is certainly involved in plenty of combat and is our most powerful means of force projection. |
We ARE at war, with China. You may describe it as a Cold War similar to the one with the USSR, but there are fundamental differences. Most of our consumer goods, electronics, appliances, etc. are made in China. That was not the case with the USSR. China has recognized the strategic value of a strong presence in space, and the US has no choice but to respond. |
