We have no control over what other countries do with their Kentucky Derby winners. The Japanese eat horse meat but not from thoroughbreds like Ferdinand. He likely became pet food.

Another TB fan here. To my mind, there's no better combination of brains, heart, speed and power in any breed. (But the feet... my God, the feet...) I wish there were more purpose-bred TB sport horses out there, to better show what the breed can do. Many of the ones who come off the track can easily adapt to their new life and discipline, but that early training and usage can take quite a toll on their bodies.
