Where to store alcohol in a home with teens

We took ours of the basement fridge and keep it up above our kitchen fridge in a cupboard. Nevermind the judgement, OP. . My kids are good kids, sports, honors, etc. we also have a good relationship. But I’m not naive enough to think that they would not drink with their friends and as a criminal defense attorney who practices in juvenile court, I’ve seen too many cases where kids drink themselves to dangerous levels. I am certainly not going to make it easier for them to do that with my alcohol in my basement.
was also a “good kid” who experimented in high school. The obstacles I faced in getting alcohol (anybody else wait outside the 7-11 for someone to buy them beer?) were real and I think part of what kept my drinking to that experimental level. People who are going on about “trust” and minimize teen drinking are the ones who should not judge. Good job, OP! |

We keep ours in a box in the back of a cabinet in the kitchen. It isn't somewhere anyone would just come across it unless they looked or were going through the cabinets. They know where it is but know it is off limits.
Usually we have a few cold drinks in the fridge. They also know this is off limits. It isn't hidden, just not visible. If they or their friends got into it - that is teens being teens and it would be dealt with accordingly just like if we caught them doing something else they aren't allowed to do. I doubt they want to chance not being able to have friends over so to our knowledge, it hasn't been a issue yet. And if they have and got away with it, then hey - they can tell us about it in ten years! |

This happened at many of my friends houses. Good call to keep it behind a lock. Even if it’s not your kid, his friends may sneak it when they are over. We don’t keep any alcohol in the house and buy it for the night if we want to have a drink or are hosting. |

Not the PP but guess what, we are a house that hosts all of the time. Sleepovers, bbq's, 10 kids over on a Friday night, team dinners, etc... It is my responsibility as a parent to not allow any access to alcohol to anyone underage, just the same if I had a gun (which we don't.) That also takes off any pressure my teens may have to "parent" their friends who may want to make a wrong decision. Sounds like you had introverted teens and you never had anyone else over. |

There's nothing normal aboit having alcohol out in the open in your home. It may be typical or common, but it is not normal. |
